Since 1938 when our club was first chartered, we have built an incredible legacy in the City of Calgary and the surrounding area.  During the last 85 years, all of our members have made a meaningful contribution by volunteering in the community and providing valuable life skills programs to thousands of young people; raising millions of dollars to support very worthwhile youth programming, community organizations, and capital projects; providing hundreds of post-secondary scholarships to young people through our Essay, Oratorical, and William J. Cummer Scholarships and other endowments; and playing an influential role in our community by lobbying local, provincial, and federal governments on a variety of social justice issues including mental health support for young people, and education and health care for indigenous persons in southern Alberta. East Town Get Down Music Festival- Volunteer Opportunity

Description: The East Town Get Down is an annual Independent Music and Food Festival! The festival happens Saturday, May 27 from 6p.m. to midnight on International Avenue – Calgary’s Culinary and Cultural District. East Town is unique in the way it brings together and celebrates Calgary’s thriving independent music scene with the dynamic (and delicious) international flavor of 17th Avenue SE. East Town Get Down happens along a six-blocks of International Avenue and area. Inspired by festivals like SXSW, you’ll find performances in a fun range of intimate and unlikely venues including small ethnic bistros, a bowling alley, and beautiful Unity Park. Event is in partnership with International Avenue Arts & Culture Community. To learn more about the festival: https://www.easttowngetdown.ca/ As this is a large event spanning over 6 blocks and 10 venues, it takes many people to make this happen. ETGD is seeking upwards of 50 volunteers to help make this happen. Below you will discover positions and shifts that are available. Please note a 1st choice, 2nd choice & 3rd choice. Volunteer orientation: Each volunteer will receive a volunteer orientation handbook prior to the event to review A brief onsite orientation will take place prior to each shift, however a more in depth orientation will take place at 4pm on event day Benefits of Volunteering: T-Shirt Food ticket Refreshments All Access pass to listen to any of the artists 2 bus tickets, if requested We will ensure volunteers return home safely Upon request, volunteer letters Supporting a one of a kind independent arts festival and arts & cultural community Thank you for your consideration and your time in supporting arts and cultural initiatives in Greater Forest Lawn! POSITIONS & TIME COMMITMENTS  Set Up (12-4pm, 4-6pm) Setting up banners Setting up equipment Various tasks to prep before the event 4-6 Venue Leads & Floating Leads (6-9pm, 9pm-12am) Check in 30 minutes prior to shift Communicate with Volunteer Coordinator(s) Introduce yourself to the venue manager/owner and notify them when you are leaving or taking a break Report if a volunteer is late or missing Monitor the schedule: notify volunteers when it is time for them to break or finish Intermittently see if venue manager requires assistance Ensure door is always tended to Familiarize yourself with all exits, develop exit strategy with your team Check phone regularly Check wristbands Count people coming in and out (on two different counters) Report if venue is approaching capacity Greet bands and direct them to the Band Liaison or Sound Technician Take on Band Liaison duties if not present Band Liaison (6-9pm, 9pm-12am) Check in 30 mins prior to shift Report to the stage technician and the Venue Lead Perform duties as required by the stage technician Assist with performer changeovers between sets Greet bands: direct and assist them Direct performers to the Green Room if desired Memorize set list for your venue Take over Lead duties if no Lead is present Venue Supports (6-9pm, 9pm-12am) Check in 15 minutes prior to shift Report to Venue Lead Check wristbands at the door Count people coming in and out (on two different counters) Report if venue is approaching capacity Report any overly intoxicated people Greet bands and direct them to the Lead or Band Liaison [/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb admin_label="Blurb" url_new_window="off" use_icon="off" image="https://volunteercalgary.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2016/02/icon-admin.png" icon_placement="left" background_layout="light" animation="off" text_orientation="left" custom_css_main_element="margin-bottom: 3% !important;" custom_css_blurb_image="width:48px;"]

Volunteer Coordinator

Organization: Ups and Downs - Calgary Down Syndrome Association

Description: Commitment: 8-12 hours per month Overview: Ups and Downs is in need of 2-3 Volunteer Coordinators to support the communication, recruitment, and implementation of our new Volunteer Program. Consults with Ups and Downs Executive Director, and Executive Assistant. Responsibilities: * Source and recruit volunteers using various recruiting techniques * Track volunteer information, requirements, and commitments * Arrange for training when needed * Manage schedules for everyday activities * Assign responsibilities as appropriate * Communicate frequently with Event * Coordinators and volunteers * Ensure volunteers are satisfied by creating a health working environment * Support volunteer growth through open dialogue and constructive feedback * Identify members with potential for higher level volunteer positions such as volunteer leads or organization coordinators * Track and evaluate volunteer's work/hours * Provide continuous feedback of volunteer program, requirements, and training to Ups and Downs office Time Commitment: * The majority of the time commitment for this position is during the Ups and Downs event season (September-June) * Check emails and answer any inquiries in a timely fashion. * Flexible schedule as needed on individual basis. 5K Foam Fest

Cycling Without Age Trishaw Bike

Description: Giving our residents the ability to experience their community and the outdoors from the comfort of a Trishaw Bike.  ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES  The Recreation Therapy Teams are trained in piloting the Trishaw Bike and will train you. The Trishaw bikes are accessible for all abilities and staff will be available to lift and transfer residents safely to the bike. motionball Calgary Marathon of Sport 2023

Description: motionball Calgary is looking for volunteers for the 2023 Marathon of Sport, in support of Special Olympics Alberta and Canada! Volunteers will get a FREE breakfast, FREE lunch, and a FREE Under Armour athletic shirt! Roles include refereeing sports (no sports experience is needed), checking-in teams, wayfinders, and general floaters to help ensure that teams are in the right spot.
