Description: The Alberta Council for Environmental Education (ACEE) is currently looking to recruit new volunteers to join the Board of Directors. We are looking for motivated individuals who have a vested interest in environmental education. We want board members with diverse professional expertise and backgrounds who can commit to advancing the mission of ACEE. ACEE works collaboratively to advance environmental education in Alberta. Our work is guided by the following: Mission: To drive systems change, engage partners, and support educators and youth so we can bring quality environmental education to all of Alberta’s students. We strive to advance environmental learning for all Albertans. Vision: Alberta is a leader in environmental education, resulting in an environmentally literate province where all Albertans are responsible for stewarding a healthy and sustainable future. Time commitment: Attend four regular board meetings per year (typically 1.5 hours in duration) Attend AGM in June of each year (typically 1.5 hours in duration) Possible other ad-hoc meetings if required Term of appointment: Board members are asked to commit to a minimum two-year term, with the option of reappointment at the end of the term. Description: We are looking for volunteers to come and help with Megan’s Rescue Efforts at adoption events, fundraisers, fostering, dog walking, socializing cats, laundry and with some administrative work. Administrative type work could include any of the following: A dog or cat foster coordinator, ensuring fosters have the required supplies and arranging to get them what’s needed. It also requires reading updates twice a month and responding to concerns they may have with the animals in their care. As well as coordinating with the events team to have animals at adoption events. Being part of the reference check team – checking references for volunteers and potential adopters Helping with our online presence and posting animals on various platforms. Fostering: The rescue provides all the supplies you would need and covers all the vetting for our animals, you provide a loving environment and day to day care of the animal (cats or dogs) Fundraisers: Being part of the fundraising committee, attending fundraising events, helping coordinate with other volunteers to make successful fundraisers. One of our biggest fundraisers are dog washes, we require volunteers to assist in bathing dogs for their owners at these fundraising events. They’re in Airdrie, Riverbend & Shawnessy. We usually require about 4 volunteers at each one to ensure their success. Adoption Events: We require volunteers to help load up the required supplies, equipment, and animals the morning of the event, setting up the event, attending the event, taking down and unloading at the end of the day. If you were able to help with any portion of the event at all, that would be very helpful. The adoption events are imperative to getting our animals out there for people to interact with and see so they can be adopted. It requires being personable and supervising the animals to help them be the best they can be. Dog Walking: Walking the dogs in care in the evenings, starting at 6pm and being back by 8pm during the week, weekend hiking, jogging and daytime outings. We will provide treats, poop bags harnesses and leashes as necessary, as well as crates or seatbelts as needed for transport. Socializing Cats: We require assistance in maintaining the cat room and helping with feeding and cleaning in the evenings and spending time cuddling and/or playing with the cats to socialize them and help keep them mentally stimulated. Weeknights between 6pm-8pm Laundry: We need help with keeping up with the laundry from the rescue. We will provide the detergent, put the laundry in bins outside to be picked up. You wash and fold it and return it to the place you picked up from. All volunteers must be over the age of 18 and must not have a criminal record. Food is provided to volunteers free of charge. You will be encouraging donations be made towards Make-A-Wish to have a photo taken with the 501st set with 501st characters. As an ambassador, you will be answering the public's questions on the role of Make-A-Wish. Various shifts are available. Make-A-Wish t-shirt will be provided along with entrance to the Expo. Parking costs will be reimbursed with proper receipts. Description: The East Town Get Down is an annual Independent Music and Food Festival! The festival happens Saturday, May 27 from 6p.m. to midnight on International Avenue – Calgary’s Culinary and Cultural District. East Town is unique in the way it brings together and celebrates Calgary’s thriving independent music scene with the dynamic (and delicious) international flavor of 17th Avenue SE. East Town Get Down happens along a six-blocks of International Avenue and area. Inspired by festivals like SXSW, you’ll find performances in a fun range of intimate and unlikely venues including small ethnic bistros, a bowling alley, and beautiful Unity Park. Event is in partnership with International Avenue Arts & Culture Community. To learn more about the festival: https://www.easttowngetdown.ca/ As this is a large event spanning over 6 blocks and 10 venues, it takes many people to make this happen. ETGD is seeking upwards of 50 volunteers to help make this happen. Below you will discover positions and shifts that are available. Please note a 1st choice, 2nd choice & 3rd choice. Responsibilities: * Source and recruit volunteers using various recruiting techniques * Track volunteer information, requirements, and commitments * Arrange for training when needed * Manage schedules for everyday activities * Assign responsibilities as appropriate * Communicate frequently with Event * Coordinators and volunteers * Ensure volunteers are satisfied by creating a health working environment * Support volunteer growth through open dialogue and constructive feedback * Identify members with potential for higher level volunteer positions such as volunteer leads or organization coordinators * Track and evaluate volunteer's work/hours * Provide continuous feedback of volunteer program, requirements, and training to Ups and Downs office Time Commitment: * The majority of the time commitment for this position is during the Ups and Downs event season (September-June) * Check emails and answer any inquiries in a timely fashion. * Flexible schedule as needed on individual basis. Description: Commitment: 8-12 hours per month Overview: Ups and Downs is in need of 2-3 Volunteer Coordinators to support the communication, recruitment, and implementation of our new Volunteer Program. Consults with Ups and Downs Executive Director, and Executive Assistant. Responsibilities: * Source and recruit volunteers using various recruiting techniques * Track volunteer information, requirements, and commitments * Arrange for training when needed * Manage schedules for everyday activities * Assign responsibilities as appropriate * Communicate frequently with Event * Coordinators and volunteers * Ensure volunteers are satisfied by creating a health working environment * Support volunteer growth through open dialogue and constructive feedback * Identify members with potential for higher level volunteer positions such as volunteer leads or organization coordinators * Track and evaluate volunteer's work/hours * Provide continuous feedback of volunteer program, requirements, and training to Ups and Downs office Time Commitment: * The majority of the time commitment for this position is during the Ups and Downs event season (September-June) * Check emails and answer any inquiries in a timely fashion. * Flexible schedule as needed on individual basis. Description: The 5K Foam Fest is a 5km obstacle course… with FOAM! Make-A-Wish Canada is the benefactor of funds raised through the participant gear check at this event and we need your help! You will be working as a group in the gear check area checking in the personal affects of event participants – snacks and water will be provided.
