Immigrant Girls, Boys and More - Youth Career Mentor

Description: Volunteer mentors will make a difference in the lives of youth by supporting them through similar life experiences, help youth with career choices and professional development. Mentors will develop interpersonal and communication skills while learning and being inspired by their mentee. SUMMARY OF POSITION The mentor supports and encourages the professional development of the mentee and provides active guidance (such as career exploration, job shadowing, academic/career support and advice, scholarship/ university applications, etc.) to help youth achieve their goals while the mentor shares their experience and expertise as appropriate. Climate Action Catalysts — Vol.+ training + funding

Description: JA is Canada's largest youth education organization, focusing on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness skills. We are on a mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. We're looking for volunteers to deliver our programming in local schools and encourage students to develop an entrepreneurial spirit, financial literacy, and work readiness skills. In addition to a one hour training session, volunteers are provided with student workbooks, a facilitator’s guide, and PowerPoint presentation. A teacher will be present to assist with classroom management. You’re welcome to deliver the program solo, or recruit a friend/colleague to join you! Our volunteers represent a variety of professional backgrounds and range of experience levels – from entrepreneurs and senior executives to junior staff, all from across a wide range of industries. Volunteers can commit to just one weekday morning (approximately 4 hours), or several mornings throughout the school year. High School mentor

Description: JA is Canada's largest youth education organization, focusing on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness skills. We are on a mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Company Program is an extra-curricular that helps students become financially literate while developing strong leadership and communication skills by creating their own risk-free business. Given the events of the last few years, these skills are more important than ever for young adults in grades 9-12 as they prepare to enter the workforce. This is an 18-week program starting in late November 2023 and ending in March 2024. Each team meets once a week on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at venues all over Calgary and surrounding areas. This is where you come in - we need passionate individuals like you to help mentor these teams of young entrepreneurs. No previous experience is needed; we welcome everyone from any industry because you all have something you could pass along to our next generation of business individuals. We also provide all of the training you'll need to properly mentor the students. IAACC Parking Fundraiser- (during GlobalFest)

Description: International Avenue Arts & Culture Community (IAACC), annuals hosts a parking fundraiser which is held in conjunction with GlobalFest - the fireworks festival. IAACC has minimum 3 lots that where we offer paid parking to people attending GlobalFest. Each night of the festival, we require 30-50 volunteers to help with various positions: 1. Directing - volunteers will be directing vehicles on where to park (sometimes helping with with general directions). As well, stationed at blocked roads to ensure no one sneaks through. 2. Parking Passes- volunteers will sell parking passes to vehicles and direct them where to park. This volunteer opportunity is suitable for ages 16+ The festival is 5 nights total August 17, 19, 22, 24, 26 however if the event is postponed it'll occur the next night and we ask volunteers to be available for the next day. Multiple days are encouraged if you can volunteer for more than 1 evening Please note: once you submit your interest through this portal, an IAACC representative will follow-up asking you to complete our volunteer form which there you will be able to choose your dates, times and volunteer position preference. IAACC's Lanter-Fest

Mover/Driver

Organization: Shelter Movers

Description: Position Summary: Movers and Drivers are core to the organization by assisting on each move. In a group of 2-7 movers, volunteers will load/unload the client’s belongings into a vehicle and transport the client to the predetermined location. Vehicles are provided for the move, and movers who have a valid driver’s license are welcome to register as drivers. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a big impact in a small amount of time. Each move varies from 3-5 hours. With our flexible volunteering model, you can sign up to volunteer on moves as per your availability. Responsibilities: - Meet other movers at the arranged time and place - Work under the direction of a volunteer Lead Mover and Move Coordinator, and maintain communication with the Lead Mover and all other movers during move - Move client’s belongings in and out of vehicles, and transport client's personal belongings to a predetermined location (client's children may accompany some of the moves) - vehicles are provided - Liaise with the volunteer team, private security, and/or law enforcement - Continuously conduct risk assessments throughout a move - Maintain client confidentiality and provide trauma-informed care to all clients - Uphold Shelter Movers’ protocols and procedures - Work with private security and law enforcement (led by Lead Mover) when necessary Time commitment: Flexible scheduling. Time commitment is based on a per-move basis, with each move taking approximately 3-4 hours. Volunteers can work around their schedule and sign up for moves based on their availability.   A minimum of 1-2 moves a month, or 4-8 hours per month, is encouraged. This is an unpaid volunteer position. Essential skills & knowledge: - Passion for Shelter Movers’ mission of supporting women and children fleeing violence and abuse - Tact, discretion, high maturity level and good judgment - Ability to protect client confidentiality and provide trauma-informed care to clients - Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care - Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds - No previous education is required - A long-term interest in the Violence Against Women (VAW) sector an asset - Ability to speak additional languages an asset. As a mover, no drivers license is required. Movers who have a valid driver’s license are welcome to register as drivers. If you are interested in being a driver, you will be asked to provide a scanned copy of your driver’s license. Shelter Movers primarily operates through car-share vehicles and trucks. Other requirements: Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, sign a confidentiality agreement, complete and pass a police reference check, and attend a Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session. As a Mover at Shelter Movers: - You’ll have the opportunity to make a positive impact helping women and families transition away from violence and abuse. - You’ll gain hands-on experience on the front lines of our organization, providing moving and storage services for our clients. - You’ll receive training in preparation for your role and have access to ongoing training opportunities. - You’ll work with a great team of passionate volunteers and supporters. - After 3 months of satisfactory service a confirmation of volunteering can be provided. After 6 months, we'd be happy to provide a personalized reference letter.
