East Town Get Down Festival - Volunteer Opportunity

Description: After a two-year hiatus, the East Town Get Down Independent Music and Food Festival is back! The festival happens Saturday, May 28 from 7 p.m. to midnight on International Avenue – Calgary’s Culinary and Cultural District. East Town is unique in the way it brings together and celebrates Calgary’s thriving independent music scene with the dynamic (and delicious) international flavour of 17th Avenue SE. East Town Get Down happens along a six-blocks of International Avenue and area. Inspired by festivals like SXSW, you’ll find performances in a fun range of intimate and unlikely venues including small ethnic bistros, a bowling alley, and beautiful Unity Park. Event is in partnership with International Avenue Arts & Culture Centre To learn more about the festival: https://www.easttowngetdown.ca/ Set Up: -Setting up banners -Setting up equipment -Various tasks to prep before the event Venue Leads & Floating Leads • Communicate with Volunteer Coordinator • Introduce yourself to the venue manager/owner and notify them when you are leaving or taking a break • Report if a volunteer is late or missing • Monitor the schedule: notify volunteers when it is time for them to break or finish • Intermittently see if venue manager requires assistance • Ensure door is always tended to • Familiarize yourself with all exits, develop exit strategy with your team • Check phone regularly • Check wristbands • Count people coming in and out (on two different counters) • Report if venue is approaching capacity • Greet bands and direct them to the Band Liaison or Sound Technician • Take on Band Liaison duties if no Band Liaison is present Band Liaison • Report to the stage technician and the Venue Lead • Perform duties as required by the stage technician • Assist with performer changeovers between sets • Greet bands: direct and assist them • Direct performers to the Green Room if desired • Memorize set list for your venue • Take over Lead duties if no Lead is present Venue Supports • Report to Venue Lead • Check wristbands at the door • Count people coming in and out (on two different counters) • Report if venue is approaching capacity • Report any overly intoxicated people • Greet bands and direct them to the Lead or Band Liaison Extras Fill in any of the volunteer positions Tear Down Taking down banners, equipment, clean up etc In addition to supporting charitable activities & building a sense of community, volunteers will receive the following • T-shirt • Light snacks • Meal ticket - to sample some of International Avenue's great food • Ability to listen to amazing music • A letter of reference from the Volunteer Coordinator – upon request Excellent volunteer opportunity for ages 16+ [/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_blurb admin_label="Blurb" url_new_window="off" use_icon="off" image="https://volunteercalgary.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2016/02/icon-event.png" icon_placement="left" background_layout="light" animation="off" text_orientation="left" custom_css_main_element="margin-bottom: 3% !important;" custom_css_blurb_image="width:48px;"]

The Volunteer Community Ambassador at Epilepsy Association of Calgary is a chance to put your talent to work to help improve the lives of people impacted by epilepsy. Role Description Working under the supervision of EAC’s Department of Development, the Volunteer Community Ambassador attends festivals, markets, community events and other public spaces on the Association’s behalf. The Volunteer Community Ambassador provides information on programs and services, generates interest in volunteering, helps in network building, and offers opportunities to support EAC financially. Parking Fundraiser

Organization: International Avenue Arts & Culture Community

Description: International Avenue Arts & Culture Community (IAACC), annuals hosts a parking fundraiser which is held in conjunction with Globalfest - the fireworks festival. IAACC has minimum 3 lots that where we offer paid parking to people attending Globalfest. Each night of the festival, we require 30-50 volunteers to help with various positions: 1. Directing - volunteers will be directing vehicles on where to park (sometimes helping with with general directions). As well, stationed at blocked roads to ensure no one sneaks through. 2. Parking Passes- volunteers will sell parking passes to vehicles and direct them where to park. This volunteer opportunity is suitable for ages 16+ The festival is 5 nights total August 18, 20, 23, 25, 27 however if the event is postponed it'll occur the next night and we ask volunteers to be available for the next day. Humanities 101 Learning Guide

Organization: Humanities 101 St. Mary's University

Description: Humanities 101 is a strength-based educational program designed to help low-income Calgarians address barriers getting in the way of exercising their capacities and skills. Teachers and volunteers are co-learners in the classroom and are passionate about learning and create a welcoming space where adults with a diverse range of life and educational experiences challenge themselves and find a passion and excitement for learning. The Humanities 101 Learning Guides join our class twice each week throughout the semester. We begin with lunch each day at noon, followed by a small group study time lead by the Learning Guides from 12:30 to 1:30. The activities for this time are outlined by our instructor, and can include a wide variety of topics including: discussing a reading, helping students identify key concepts, grammar, writing in academic style, reviewing student work, modeling and teaching appropriate classroom etiquette, talking about learning strategies such as note-taking and time management, mentoring students, etc. After this, the class has a lecture or class discussion from 1:30 to 3:30. Volunteers are welcome, but not required, to stay for this time. Join ClimateScience as a Community Coordinator! [Remote]

Description: WHAT DO WE DO? ClimateScience aims to empower people to make real long-term solutions to climate change actionable through climate education. We hope our way of covering solutions makes people excited to contribute to clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and other global-scale sustainability issues – beyond reusing their plastic bags. We believe education is the most powerful tool in the fight against climate change. POSITION Help fight against climate change by joining our team at ClimateScience! As a Community Coordinator, you would help recruit people to be a part of our team, actively participate in meetings and events, form partnerships with schools and organizations, and learn more about climate change through our website. You have the chance to gain new experiences and connections, opportunities to earn leadership positions, build your resume, and acquire skills, all while being part of a fun community! Community Coordinators must be interested in learning more about climate change and passionate about bringing climate education into their own communities, and a flexible schedule would be a bonus. INFORMATION Our organization is generally oriented towards youth education. Open to anyone between 14-25 years. Minimum 3-5 hours per week (more for leadership positions!). Must be willing to commit for a minimum of 6 months. Entirely remote. Should be eager to learn, passionate about climate change, sense of responsibility and accountability, networking and communication skills are a plus! RESPONSIBILITIES Recruit people to join ClimateScience Canada. Attend weekly meetings with other members of the team. Will work within their community to create and implement long-term projects that help address climate change on a local level. Can include: research, outreach, document writing, skill-building.
