Next July, our chapter will be hosting a summer camp at L.G. Barnes camp at Gull Lake called a Village. During this month, twelve delegations of 11 year olds along with their leaders from all over the world will live together while participating in activities to help build lasting international friendships and multicultural understanding. Description: The CBMCA board of directors is a dedicated group of volunteers who meet monthly to support the organization’s activities and events. We have a few opportunities coming open: Director at Large The best way to get your feet wet if you’ve never been on a board before or want to get established in CBMCA before taking on a portfolio. You’ll come to the meetings, join the discussions and vote on initiatives. Director, Planning and Development This is a very important role. The Planning and Development Committee reviews proposed developments in the community and determines CBMCA’s response. It often meets with owners and developers to better understand their perspective and to have a robust discussion with them. These discussions and our comments can help improve what is being proposed and protect our community’s heritage. Director, Communications CBMCA speaks to the community via a monthly newsletter and through social media, keeping residents up to date on events and news that impact our community. Director, Heritage Cliff Bungalow-Mission is a historic community and this important role helps raise awareness by providing a heritage perspective on proposed new developments, managing the community heritage plaque program, and engaging the community through the newsletter and social media. Director, Social This is the fun portfolio. It brings our community together through events like movies in the park, potluck dinners, and the Jazz Under the Cliff series. Description: The Organization Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Volunteering at Shelter Movers means contributing to a mission that will make a meaningful impact on families experiencing abuse and supporting survivors as they transition to a life free of violence. It also means playing a role in ending gender-based violence. We are growing and looking to add caring, compassionate, and dependable people to our team. The Role The Orientation Facilitator will have an integral role in the volunteer recruitment process. In teams of two, Facilitators are responsible for leading and presenting the Shelter Mover’s Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session to volunteers completing the onboarding process. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Train and engage volunteer applicants by leading 1-2 Trauma-Informed Care Orientation sessions per month Gather and share knowledge on critical concepts of Violence Against Women and the procedures, values and impact of Shelter Movers Have regular check-ins with the Orientation Supervisor/ Volunteer Services Manager. Coordinate with other Facilitators and the Volunteer Services team Review the Trauma-Informed Care Orientation for any content changes in advance of each presentation Skills and Qualifications Strong ability to work as part of a team Comfortable leading and facilitating virtual orientation sessions Familiarity in navigating Zoom as a host/ presenter Experience with public speaking Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Comfortable identifying and responding to different group dynamics Patience, empathy, emotional intelligence, active listening skills, and ability to handle difficult conversations Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds Ability to apply an anti-oppressive lens to individuals Tact, discretion, high maturity level and good judgment Reliable work habits Strong organizational skills Ability to protect client and volunteer confidentiality A long-term interest in the Gender Based Violence Sector (GBV), and Volunteer Management/Non-Profit Management an asset Other Requirements Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, sign a confidentiality agreement, complete a criminal record check, and attend a Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session. You’ll gain experience in Trauma-Informed facilitation and training delivery, with additional coaching and support.
