You will be at the forefront of our movement, connecting with local stakeholders, building awareness, and organizing action. As the movement grows, top-performing volunteers may have the opportunity to transition into paid roles! We have done a Change.org petition, which has gained over 10,000 signatures, to make age and ID verification mandatory on all social media platforms, aiming to prevent adults from engaging in inappropriate conversations with minors online. Our next steps include organizing protests, rallies, and a hardcopy petition campaign across the United States and Canada, with plans to expand globally to drive this mission forward. To support these efforts, we need dedicated individuals in key geographic areas that serve as ambassadors to amplify our cause. Responsibilities Coordinate and lead petitions and protests in your region, raising awareness about online safety for children. Engage with local organizations, schools, and communities to build support and partnerships. Recruit, train, and motivate volunteers to join the initiative. Role Description: As a Podcast Writer/Producer volunteer, you will help craft compelling and impactful episodes for Season 2, collaborating on every stage of production. You’ll work closely with a team to develop stories, write scripts, produce episodes, manage actors, and bring the podcast to life through both audio and visual elements. Key Responsibilities: Story Creation & Planning: Collaborate on ideas, themes, and episode outlines that highlight online risks. Season 1 consisted of 13 episodes, and Season 2 will feature up to 9 episodes, each running between 7-13 minutes. While the podcast is primarily an audio experience, we have a YouTube following of over 6,000 subscribers who would benefit from engaging visuals. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute your skills to a meaningful cause. Talented animators may be offered paid opportunities after successfully completing some assignments. Key Responsibilities Produce engaging 2D animations that visually represent the story and themes of each podcast episode. Work closely with the podcast production team to ensure visuals align with the episode’s script and tone. Be open to making adjustments based on team feedback to enhance the quality and impact of the visuals. Committee Support Program: Help develop and oversee the Committee Support Program, assigning Committee Members as support contacts for volunteers. Recruitment Analysis: Monitor volunteer recruitment trends and advise the Committee Chair on effective recruitment strategies. Qualifications Experience in human resources, volunteer coordination, or a related field is an asset. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Role Description We are seeking passionate Political Science Students or Lobbyists with a deep understanding of Canada’s political landscape to join our Advocacy Team. In this role, you’ll help lead efforts to change laws, table petitions, and establish strong political contacts that will further DEFEND’s mission to protect children online. Responsibilities Work within the Advocacy Team to drive legislative initiatives focused on child protection online. Table petitions and present lobbying materials to federal and provincial governments across Canada. Network and build valuable relationships with political contacts to support our goals. Contribute to the development and execution of advocacy strategies, ensuring alignment with DEFEND’s mission. Qualifications Strong understanding of the Canadian political system and legislative processes. Excellent communication skills, with fluency in spoken and written English. Proactive and organized, with an ability to manage multiple lobbying tasks effectively. Previous experience in advocacy, political science studies, or lobbying is a plus but not required. Role Description We are seeking passionate and driven individuals to join DEFEND’s Management Team. As a Committee Member, you will help guide and oversee the organization’s goals, ensuring that our mission remains at the core of all decisions. You will meet weekly via Zoom to discuss long-term objectives, project plans, and strategies to advance our mission. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to significant social change and be a part of a dynamic and impactful nonprofit team. Responsibilities Attend and contribute to three weekly Zoom meetings, with a break on the fourth week. Collaborate with team members to discuss progress, refine project plans, and set actionable steps for long-term goals. Support efforts to mandate age/ID verification on social media, ensuring children and vulnerable persons are safer online. Contribute to the evaluation and creation of organizational policies. Work within teams to achieve project milestones of varying scales. Attend and vote on group interviews for candidates applying to join DEFEND teams or committees. Qualifications Commitment to DEFEND’s mission to protect children and vulnerable persons online. Strong communication skills, with an ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment. Previous experience in nonprofit management, policy development, or project management is an asset but not required. Ability to dedicate a few hours per week to attend meetings and contribute to projects.
