Fundraising and Events Representative

Description: Volunteer Title: Fundraising and Events Representative    Description: The Fundraising and Events Representative will ensure the regional hub supports Breast Cancer Canada’s two national events, the Mother’s Day Walk and Dress for the Cause, and oversee the hub’s year-round fundraising efforts. Responsibilities of this role include the planning and implementation of events and fundraising initiatives, securing local sponsorships, and building relationships with local business partners. The Fundraising and Events Representative will also help identify new volunteers in their communities and establish a relevant voluntary support network to help with the fulfillment of Breast Cancer Canada’s regional work. This role typically requires 2-4 hours of time commitment per month, possibly more during the months of May and October. It also requires a 2-year commitment unless otherwise approved by BCC Senior Leadership.   Responsibilities:  Plan, implement and support local events and fundraising initatives.  Work with regional businesses and cancer centers in the coordination of events.  Raise the regional profile of Breast Cancer Canada by securing local sponsorships and partnerships. Help in the recruitment of volunteers for events.   Qualifications: A post-secondary degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience. Previous experience with Breast Cancer Canada or other not-for-profit organizations is an asset. Demonstrated experience in non-profit fundraising is an asset. A demonstrated ability in event planning, coordination, and implementation is required. Previous experience in program planning and development is an asset. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Experience in volunteer recruitment and management. Make-A-Wish Canada - Pull for Wishes

Description: Help us power the wishes of children with critical illnesses in Southern Alberta at Pull for Wishes.   This is the first year for the event and it won’t be an ordinary truck teams will be pulling either – from a military light armoured vehicle to a utility pump vehicle, teams will have a unique challenge ahead of them! Night Light - Volunteer for Calgary's first Light Art festival

Description: WHAT IS NIGHT LIGHT? Step into a world of mesmerizing light, art, and live performance as a volunteer at the Night Light Festival! Over three nights, we’re aiming to transport Victoria Park into a space full of creativity and light. Immerse yourself in projection mapped architecture, captivating light-art installations and a variety of interactive installations too. This inaugural edition is all about providing a platform for local artists - from newcomers to seasoned talents - to showcase their imaginative creations. As the autumnal equinox approaches and longer nights beckon, we’re illuminating the night as never seen before. Our collaboration with esteemed partners, Big Art, What’s Good Calgary and Social Studies Lab set us apart from other events. Together, we’re hoping to make a mark on Calgary’s event landscape, introducing the city’s very first festival of this nature. As a volunteer, you’ll be an integral part of this groundbreaking experience, guiding patrons to their moments of awe, fascination, and new ways of thinking.   WHAT WILL I DO? Mover/Driver

Description: About Shelter Movers: Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free from violence. Shelter Movers Calgary is new to Alberta and we are looking to add caring and compassionate people to our volunteer team. Position Summary: Movers and Drivers are core to the organization by assisting on each move. In a group of 2-7 movers, volunteers will load/unload the client’s belongings into a vehicle and transport the client to the predetermined location. Vehicles are provided for the move, and movers who have a valid driver’s license are welcome to register as drivers. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a big impact in a small amount of time. Each move varies from 3-5 hours. With our flexible volunteering model, you can sign up to volunteer on moves as per your availability. Responsibilities: - Meet other movers at the arranged time and place - Work under the direction of a volunteer Lead Mover and Move Coordinator, and maintain communication with the Lead Mover and all other movers during move - Move client’s belongings in and out of vehicles, and transport client's personal belongings to a predetermined location (client's children may accompany some of the moves) - vehicles are provided - Liaise with the volunteer team, private security, and/or law enforcement - Continuously conduct risk assessments throughout a move - Maintain client confidentiality and provide trauma-informed care to all clients - Uphold Shelter Movers’ protocols and procedures - Work with private security and law enforcement (led by Lead Mover) when necessary Time commitment: Flexible scheduling. Time commitment is based on a per-move basis, with each move taking approximately 3-4 hours. Volunteers can work around their schedule and sign up for moves based on their availability. A minimum of 1-2 moves a month, or 4-8 hours per month, is encouraged. This is an unpaid volunteer position. Essential skills & knowledge: - Passion for Shelter Movers’ mission of supporting women and children fleeing violence and abuse - Tact, discretion, high maturity level and good judgment - Ability to protect client confidentiality and provide trauma-informed care to clients - Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care - Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds - No previous education is required - A long-term interest in the Violence Against Women (VAW) sector an asset - Ability to speak additional languages an asset As a mover, no drivers license is required. Movers who have a valid driver’s license are welcome to register as drivers. If you are interested in being a driver, you will be asked to provide a scanned copy of your driver’s license. Shelter Movers primarily operates through car-share vehicles and trucks. Other requirements: Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, sign a confidentiality agreement, obtain a police reference check, and attend a Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session. Ups and Downs Teen and Young Adult Conference
