Description: Optimist International is recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all youth (ages 7 to 25) and helps them develop to their full potential. As part of Optimist International, the Optimist Club of Calgary is committed to youth development activities and programming in the City of Calgary and the surrounding area. Since our club was chartered in 1938, our club has focused on the following areas: Education –school programming related to skills development, the fine arts, public speaking, essay writing, and scholarships (i.e. Mount Royal University, SAIT, Calgary Foundation). Health – mental and physical health, obesity, addictions, and bullying. Community – community programming related to skills development, picnics, and family days. Sports – junior curling, junior golf, disabled skiing. Calgary NASA Space Apps Outreach Manager

Description: The NASA International Space Apps Challenge – the world’s largest annual hackathon – returns this year with the theme “Make Space,” which emphasizes NASA’s commitment to inclusivity. The Calgary regional event, hosted by SEDS-ÉEDS Canada, is looking for an Outreach Manager to join our team. The Outreach Manager will be responsible for researching and inviting panelists, judges, and speakers to participate in the Calgary regional event. In collaboration with the local leads, this position will involve identifying a list of prospective community members, developing a formal invitation, and documenting any needs to participate in the event. Our goal is to secure a diverse set of science and technology professionals and academics to participate as panelists, judges, and speakers in the Calgary regional event. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to engage with potential panelists, judges, and speakers in a professional manner and should be a self-starter with little need for supervision. Previous experience with outreach, stakeholder relations, or community involvement (especially in the science and technology sector) is beneficial, but not required. Calgary NASA Space Apps Social Media Manager

The Calgary regional event, hosted by SEDS-ÉEDS Canada, is looking for a Social Media Manager to join our team. The Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing social media posts to promote the Calgary regional event on Instagram/Twitter/LinkedIn/Facebook. In collaboration with the local leads, this position will strategize and execute a social media campaign in compliance with the content and design expectations of NASA International Space Apps. Furthermore, this position will be responsible for creating a buzz around the event to get young Calgarians hyped up and engaged. To do this, we are seeking an individual who is passionate about creating content that is captivating and relevant to students and youth, especially those interested in the space industry. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to develop engaging content for social media platforms like Instagram/Twitter/LinkedIn/Facebook and should be a self-starter with little need for supervision. Previous experience with social media campaigns, graphic design, or marketing is beneficial, but not required. In collaboration with the local leads, this position will develop a general sponsorship package to showcase the benefits available to sponsors when they contribute to the event. Our goal is to secure sponsorship funds from local science and technology firms to enhance the hackathon experience for this year’s participants. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to engage with potential sponsors in a professional manner and should be a self-starter with little need for supervision. Previous experience with fundraising, business development, or marketing is beneficial, but not required. ART SPOT Expresstival Event

Thanks very much for your consideration.  EXPRESSTIVAL SEPT 10TH, LOT 6 Explore art in Calgary in a way you have never experienced before. This Sept 10th, in partnership with the Downtown Association,  ART SPOT is  throwing a massive freeform art event in downtown Calgary! This  interactive exhibition will feature hundreds of local artists, showcasing their art in a freeform environment. Artists are given a space to express themselves, in way of performance, exhibition, installation, demos, workshops and so much more.  ART SPOT is a non-profit artist/volunteer run organization that has been a home to emerging  artists since 2008.  Most known for the notorious “Under $100 Art Show”; which, in it’s 14th year of operation, featured over 200 local artists and brought out over 4000 attendees, and with over 100 art events under it's belt, ART SPOT is an integral part of the Calgary art scene. Expresstival is intended to break down barriers in the art world and to accept all artists from all walks of life.  Artists are encouraged to express themselves freely, without boundaries and to create connections with the people of Calgary. Teen and Young Adult Conference

Description: Hi everyone! We're looking for 8 - 10 volunteers for the annual Teen and Young Adult Conference happening September 10th at St Andrew's Church, 10601 Southport Rd SW. The event runs from 9am to 2pm. We need volunteers from 8am until about 3pm.  If you can only stay for part of the event but still want to help, please let me know and we can make it work. Some of the roles that need to be filled are setting up, faciliting/supporting during activities, and cleaning up. Lantern Festival

Description: Inspired by the German Lantern Festival, participants will enjoy: - cultural entertainment - decorating Free paper lanterns - take part in the "parade of lanterns" walk (1.5 km/ 20 minutes) Volunteers will be helping with: - setup/ cleanup (3-5pm & 7:30-complete) - monitoring lantern decorating stations & engaging with attendees (5-6:30pm) - helping usher attendees along the walking route (6:30-7:30pm) - photography - 2 or 3 volunteers taking photos of the event for IAACC's marketing & grant purposes Volunteer benefits: - Supporting arts & cultural programming in Greater Forest Lawn - Volunteer hours letter, upon request - Dinner, snacks, beverages - Lantern [/et_pb_blurb]
