Opportunity Description:

Enviros (‘Enviros’) Wilderness School Association is seeking new volunteer Board Members to join our growing not-for-profit service agency.  We currently have two roles available. About the Organization Enviros, founded in 1976, is a diverse not-for-profit social services agency and works with vulnerable individuals and families in Alberta. Enviros provides intentionally designed, therapeutic programs that help children, youth, adults and families with mental health, addiction & other challenges, to develop skills & foster resilience ultimately creating healthy communities. Through experiential learning, individual and family counseling, life skills training, and both urban and wilderness programming, Enviros works to build on the strengths of youth and families, to enhance their relationships and overall well-being. Enviros currently operates 8 program which includes Mental Health and Addiction Recovery, FASD assessment and support, Foster Care, Homelessness Services, Live-In Environments for children and youth, Respite Care for children and youth with special needs, Young Offenders Open Custody, and Youth Aging our of Children’s Services.  For more information on Enviros’ services and program, please visit our website at www.enviros.org. Enviros focuses on relationships is the foundation of our programs and what enables clients to develop skills, healthy trust and independence.   Join our Board of Directors Join us in making a difference for children, youth, families and communities in Alberta.  Enviros is a growing organization, and we are at our next strategic juncture.  To that end, the Board is currently seeking qualified candidates that are interested in joining the Board to help provide governance oversight and guide management in its execution of strategy and long-term financial sustainability in support of Enviros’ mission and vision. Specifically, we have two roles available.  We are seeking Board members who have previous experience on not-for-profit boards and/or with Board governance experience.  Previous experience may include holding an executive position with Board experience, senior level finance/commercial experience, senior position within a not-for-profit organization, and/or a finance or accounting designation.  All Board roles are volunteer.  The Board meets five times per year (quarterly + AGM) and is encouraged to participate in other Enviros related events. Board Positions Board Member – Member of Audit, Finance and Investment Committee Key responsibilities include: reviewing and approving the annual budget, monitoring quarterly financial statements, working with auditors and management as issue arise, provide recommendations to the Board regarding the approval of the audit, reviewing investment holdings, monitoring fund to operations from funders, ensuring the organization has the appropriate reserve and investments for long-term financial sustainability. It is preferred that candidates have an accounting designation (CA, CPA) or senior level experience with oversight of accounting and finance matters. Board Member – Member at Large Key responsibilities include prepare for and attend all Board meetings, participate in Board discussions, support management through expertise and advice, at the request of the CEO or Board Chair attend events and/or meeting on behalf of the Board, support Enviros through fundraising activities, participation in events, act as an ambassador on Enviros’ mission, vision and values. It is preferred that candidates have the desire and skillset to move into a committee position and/or be considered in the succession plan for the Finance Chair and/or Board Chair roles. Our ideal candidates for these roles, in addition to the items mentioned above, will demonstrate a strong commitment to Enviros’ mission, vision and values of enhancing the quality of family life in Alberta.
