NHCA serves over 57,000 residents in five communities in North Central Calgary: Country Hills, Country Hills Village, Coventry Hills, Harvest Hills and Panorama Hills. Nature Calgary holds meetings, organizes field trips and has in the past published a number of natural history books, including guides to natural areas of the city or greeting cards. We also advocate for the preservation of natural areas within the Calgary area. For example we were involved with the development of the Weed Lake area in partnership with Ducks Unlimited.
The Neil Squire Society is a national not-for-profit organization that assists people with disabilities (of any kind) in finding employment. Open Arms Patient Advocacy Society is an unbiased organization providing free patient support services in Alberta. We are a group of compassionate volunteers who share a common goal: achieving the best possible care for all patients.
OPERATION KICKSTART, a non profit society, reg'd in 1996, is seeking 5 volunteers. Applicants need to be retired, with at least 2 references, aged 50 + and a university degree. We assist the unemployed, teaching basic digital skills and providing those job seekers with access to computers, to search the internet for jobs. Our program assist with resume writng, cover letters, strategies for interviews. Each accepted applicant is assigned a case worker whose task it is to mentor that applicant. All volunteers shall attend a training course of several hours. Volunteers must be able to attend our offices on 3rd street sw, for at least 1 day a week. Office hours are from 9-noon and 1-4. Tasks of volunteers will be to answer phones, assist walk ins with filling out applications, setting appointments for classes. Calgary is in the midst of serious challenge as the economy is staggering and many need our help. FINDING A JOB IS A JOB-we cannot help everyone but our mission is to make sure serious job hunters have basic computers skills and direction of how to search online for jobs. Help us help these deserving people.
Operation Smile is a global medical charity helping to improve the health and lives of children in more than 60 countries. We’ve provided more than 300,000 children and young adults born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial differences with free life-changing surgical procedures and dental care. We train doctors and local medical professionals, ship donated medical equipment and supplies and provide year-round medical treatments through a network of comprehensive care centres.
