The Calgary Folk Club is Calgary’s first folk music club. In our 50 years of operations, we have created vital partnerships to promote the city’s music scene and Alberta talent to the world. The Calgary Folk Club provides an environment of discovery, reflection, diversity and community. We provide a setting where our listening-oriented audience is keen to hear the musicality, harmonies and storytelling of the individuals and groups coming to the stage. We believe that providing diverse musical experiences for the Calgary area, where artists are paid according to Socan Standards, opens the western Canadian market for touring artists from across the world. The Calgary Folk Club is an inclusive venue where performers can refine their craft, test a new skill or song and perform to an attentive and observant audience. Each concert is composed of a ‘Main Act’ and a ‘First-up’. For the main, we seek out high-quality, renowned artists – often recognized award winners. Our first-up spaces are offered to award-winning performers, as well as up-and-coming artists who may be unfamiliar to the Calgary audience. We see the Club as Canada’s best live folk music venue. An attentive listening atmosphere that is diverse, accessible and affordable. We want to continue to foster a space where the current community members and future generations come together and interact with the artists to make music collaboratively.

The International Festival of Animated Objects Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mask & puppet related performance. As an incubator and producer of mask, puppetry, and animated objects we are the primary curator and presenter of local, national and international puppetry. We strive to provide Alberta audiences with the chance to experience the breadth and diversity of these innovative art forms. Vital to the development of puppetry as an art form, the festival not only provides a stage for Alberta creators to showcase their work but is also a forum for an international exchange of ideas providing learning opportunities for professional and emerging artists and the public at large to find expression through animated objects.

VOLUNTEER BOARD CHAIR PLEASANT HEIGHTS AFTER SCHOOL AccessHR is excited to partner with Pleasant Heights After School for the recruitment of a Board Chair to lead a 6-to-10-person, currently 6-member, volunteer board. ABOUT PLEASANT HEIGHTS AFTER SCHOOL Pleasant Heights After School (PHAS) is a nonprofit childcare organization serving 3 elementary schools in northwest Calgary. PHAS was one of the first organizations to provide before and after school care to children in the area, opening its first location in 1976. PHAS now has three locations operating out of King George School, Mount Pleasant Community Centre, and Panorama Hills School with more than 200 elementary school children in kindergarten to grade 6. Our dedicated and enthusiastic staff design and deliver innovative programs to support families and provide a safe, caring, and engaging environment. OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS The Board Chair plays a pivotal role in guiding the Board and the Executive Director of PHAS. The ideal candidate will have previous and/or current board and leadership experience along with a strong desire to contribute to a community organization. This role encompasses both operational and governance responsibilities, requiring a strategic and results-driven approach. Operational Oversight  Work closely with the Executive Director to deliver on operational plans and programming.  Participate in decision-making related to development and enhancement of programs and services.  Empower management team to address and resolve operational challenges and issues.  Ensure financial sustainability and adherence to financial policies. Leadership and Governance  Lead and empower the Board of Directors, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.  Ensure effective governance practices and adherence to bylaws, policies, and code of conduct.  Chair board meetings, encouraging open communication and constructive discussions.  Recruit, orient, and develop board members. Strategic Planning  Work with Board of Directors to develop a strategic plan for the organization.  Provide insights and guidance on long-term goals, ensuring sustainability and growth.  Monitor program effectiveness and work with Board to identify improvement opportunities. QUALIFICATIONS  Leadership: Leadership experience, preferably in a volunteer, nonprofit board setting.  Board Experience: Experience participating on a board, either paid or volunteer.  Finance: Business and financial acumen; expertise with budgeting and fiscal management.  Governance: Comprehensive understanding of governance principles.  Consensus Builder: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate succinct initiative messages to multiple stakeholders and build consensus.  People Developer: Track record of strategically delegating responsibilities and fostering an empowering environment to maximize team potential and drive organizational success.  Strategic: Ability to think strategically and develop & execute long-range plans.  Community: Commitment to serving the community in alignment with PHAS’s Code of Conduct.  Change Management: Ability to navigate and lead through change, uncertainty, and unforeseen challenges. The mission or philosophy of The Integrated Post Secondary Education Society is to: Provide an inclusive educational alternative to young adults with developmental disabilities by encouraging and supporting them to participate in a post-secondary experience (Inclusive Post-Secondary Education). Provide continuing support to the graduates of the post-secondary education experience in a workplace environment and connecting with the community. (Graduate Support Services). The objective of Inclusive Post-Secondary Education and the Graduate Support Services is to provide quality educational and workplace opportunities to students, and in so doing, to assist them in developing the skills and relationships necessary to live and work in the community.  Inclusion within the university population will offer the normative, age-appropriate setting, which will promote a variety of social interactions and many new skills, while workplace assistance will allow our graduates to maintain and improve on the skills acquired during their time in the university setting.  Our philosophy is to encourage men and women who have a developmentally disability to associate with other individuals and to develop lifelong, as well as life-defining, relationships.  These relationships are critical to an inclusive future for young adults as they strive to live productive lives in the community.  We also believe that people with disabilities should have the same opportunity as others to Further their education beyond the secondary level. YouCreate is a Calgary non-profit company founded to promote artistic and musical community service projects. We also have a UCalgary club chapter which mirrors our projects. Every two years we focus on a new overarching theme. 2020 and 2021 focused on helping communities during the COVID-19 pandemic with fundraisers for the Drop-In Center, Calgary Food Bank, and more. In 2022 and 2023, we have been exploring the challenges faced by Indigenous communities through our podcast series: mynistypiksiiks (Many Different Birds).
