About Us
DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to protecting children and other vulnerable people online. Our mission is to reduce online risks through education and technology to create safer digital spaces.
Role Description
Join us as a Regional Manager / Leader and help organize efforts to raise awareness and demand change. This volunteer role involves leading petitions, protests, and community initiatives to advocate for safer digital environments for kids. You will be at the forefront of our movement, connecting with local stakeholders, building awareness, and organizing action. As the movement grows, top-performing volunteers may have the opportunity to transition into paid roles!
We have done a Change.org petition, which has gained over 10,000 signatures, to make age and ID verification mandatory on all social media platforms, aiming to prevent adults from engaging in inappropriate conversations with minors online. Our next steps include organizing protests, rallies, and a hardcopy petition campaign across the United States and Canada, with plans to expand globally to drive this mission forward. To support these efforts, we need dedicated individuals in key geographic areas that serve as ambassadors to amplify our cause.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead petitions and protests in your region, raising awareness about online safety for children.
- Engage with local organizations, schools, and communities to build support and partnerships.
- Recruit, train, and motivate volunteers to join the initiative.
- Monitor regional progress and provide regular updates to the central team.
- Promote events and campaigns through social media and community outreach.
- Ensure that all activities follow legal and ethical guidelines.
- Act as a spokesperson for the initiative in your region when necessary.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with experience in community engagement or activism preferred.
- Passionate about child safety and motivated to drive positive change.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and social media outreach).
- Ability to motivate and manage volunteers.
- Comfortable with event planning and coordinating public actions.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Previous experience in advocacy, campaigning, or grassroots organizing is a plus.
