The Brita Night Run will be taking place in support of the Special Olympics. We are looking to recruit volunteers to come and help out at our event, without whom the event would not be possible!The Brita Night Run is a 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run taking place in 4 cities across Canada in support of Special Olympics. Come out and light up the night!EVENT DETAILSLocation- Peace Park, CalgaryDate- Friday, September 18thTime- 5-10pmPOSITIONS AVAILABLE-Race Kit Pick Up-Event Site Set-up-Course Marshal-Water Station-Food and Beverage Distributor-Race Kit Pick Up On Event Day-Bag Check-Start/Finish Line-Social Media Capture-Post-Event Tear DownNo experience is necessary; come out and have a fun time with like-minded volunteers!Why not bring a friend? All volunteers will receive an Energizer Headlamp and 1 drink ticket! Canada Connects is a volunteer program aimed at helping refugees arriving to Calgary integrate into the community by matching them with well-established local volunteers. The program supports government-assisted refugees in adjusting to life in Calgary by fostering connections with the client for a period of 4-12 months. Volunteer activities:Explore the community together, introducing newcomers to local resources, organizations, and share experiences about living in CalgaryEngage in cultural exchange, discussing various aspects of life in Canada and the newcomer's home countryProvide information on Canadian customs, culture, and societySpend leisure time with newcomers, engaging in activities and participate in and encourage attendance at fun, free events throughout the city or those organized by CCIS and partnersProvide moral support and encouragementFacilitate informal English language practiceRequirements:Meet with matched newcomer(s) for at least 4-8 hours per month for at least 4-12 monthsEach match is supervised by an assigned Canada Connects Program Facilitator who will support both the volunteer and the newcomer, helping to establish a successful relationship and provide guidance along the wayThe program requires a minimum commitment of 4 hours per month for 4 months to 1 yearThe initial meeting takes place at the client's home under the supervisions of the Program Facilitator. Subsequent meetings can take place in the client’s home or any agreed upon location in the communityQualification:Must be over the age of 18Must have lived in Calgary for 3-5 yearsA desire to get involved and make a positive impactLong term Canadian or settled immigrantsFlexibility, cultural sensitivity, and excellent communication and interpersonal skillsSuccessful completion of a police check is required (paid by CCIS)Creative problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges Benefits of the program:Gain experience with other cultures and countries while developing cultural sensitivity, flexibility, adaptability, and enhancing cross-cultural communication skillsAttend a variety of training sessions and learn new skills.Network with other volunteersGain satisfaction from supporting those in need within the community.Volunteers will gain work experience in a Canadian workplaceReference may be provided upon completion of minimum requirements, at the discretion of the assigned Program FacilitatorIf you think this opportunity may be great for you, please contact a program manager - Beata Lutaba at blutaba@ccisab.ca/Direct Line: 403.290.5752

TO SIGN-UP, PLEASE VISIT: VolunteerSignup - Online volunteer signup sheets - Pull for Wishes - September 24th, 2026 signup sheetHelp us power the wishes of children with critical illnesses in Southern Alberta at Pull for Wishes. Teams of 16 people can compete to see who will be the fastest to pull a frac pump down a designated track. We will have various volunteer opportunities available for this fun event and we would love to have you join us!Details:Date: Thursday September 24, 2026Location: McMahon Stadium Parking Lot (1817 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary AB)Time: 8:00am - 3:00pmCheck in Location: Stadium Parking Lot (look for signage)Parking is available on site and is also transit accessible.Roles:Event Set-upTruck Pull TimersKid Zone Carnival Game SupervisorsFood and Drinks TentEvent Clean-upOther Notes:- Training will be provided on the day of the event for all volunteers assisting with the truck pull on how to record the time for each team.- Many of the roles involved will require lots of standing and walking around the event site. Activities can be at a decent distant from each other, so most volunteers will need to be prepared to be mobile and stand (on concrete) for periods of time.- To Wear: MAWC T-shirt (if you have one, if not, one will be provided), comfortable shoes, weather appropriate clothing- Volunteers will receive snacks and lunch
