Opening Reception for Made In Calgary exhibition

Organized by Glenbow Museum in collaboration with Nickle Galleries, curated by Katherine Ylitalo Made in Calgary is a five-part exhibition series that explores the character of Calgary’s artistic community from 1960 to 2010. Each exhibition will reflect the contributions of individual artists in the context of the social and cultural factors that influenced their work. Glenbow has collaborated with MOCA Calgary for the 1980s exhibition, and with Contemporary Calgary for the 1990s. The fifth and final installment of the Made in Calgary series will present what is perhaps the most relevant work – that which reflects the boom and bust cycles of previous decades to set the stage for the network of artists and institutions that we find today. Guest curator Katherine Ylitalo will bring together work from a decade that is both the culmination of 50 years and the springboard to our present day. This is the last in a series of five exhibitions examining the work of Calgary artists from 1960 to 2010. This particular exhibition covers work from the 2000s and includes the work of 29 Calgary-based artists.
