Volunteer Opportunities in Calgary

Dear Friends and Supporters,Our Run for Childhood Cancer is coming up, and we need your help to make this important day possible.This event is about so much more than a run. It is a day when our community comes together to stand beside children battling cancer and the families walking this incredibly difficult journey with them. We simply cannot put on this event without our amazing volunteers.We are looking for day-of volunteers to help with a variety of positions, including:Event setupCheer stations along the routeFood and refreshment tablesRegistration and participant supportKids' activitiesGeneral event supportCleanup and other areas where an extra set of hands is neededWhether you can give us a few hours or stay for most of the event, every volunteer makes a difference. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet other supporters, have some fun, and be part of a community that is determined to show local families that they are not facing childhood cancer alone.This year, that support is needed more than ever.We have seen a significant increase in families reaching out to us for financial assistance. Many are facing tremendous financial hardship while their child undergoes cancer treatment. Between missed work, reduced incomes, travel, parking, meals, medications and other unexpected expenses, the financial strain can quickly become overwhelming.Events like the Run for Childhood Cancer allow us to continue saying “yes” when these families ask for help. The money we raise helps ease some of that financial burden so parents can spend less time worrying about how they will pay the bills and more time focusing on what matters most—their child.But before we can raise those funds, we need you.Please consider signing up for a volunteer shift and joining us for this special day. The Brita Night Run will be taking place in support of the Special Olympics. We are looking to recruit volunteers to come and help out at our event, without whom the event would not be possible!The Brita Night Run is a 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run taking place in 4 cities across Canada in support of Special Olympics. Teams of 16 people can compete to see who will be the fastest to pull a frac pump down a designated track. We will have various volunteer opportunities available for this fun event and we would love to have you join us!Details:Date: Thursday September 24, 2026Location: McMahon Stadium Parking Lot (1817 Crowchild Trail NW, Calgary AB)Time: 8:00am - 3:00pmCheck in Location: Stadium Parking Lot (look for signage)Parking is available on site and is also transit accessible.Roles:Event Set-upTruck Pull TimersKid Zone Carnival Game SupervisorsFood and Drinks TentEvent Clean-upOther Notes:- Training will be provided on the day of the event for all volunteers assisting with the truck pull on how to record the time for each team.- Many of the roles involved will require lots of standing and walking around the event site. Activities can be at a decent distant from each other, so most volunteers will need to be prepared to be mobile and stand (on concrete) for periods of time.- To Wear: MAWC T-shirt (if you have one, if not, one will be provided), comfortable shoes, weather appropriate clothing- Volunteers will receive snacks and lunch
