Between Friends provides quality social, recreational, and developmental opportunities so that people with disabilities can Connect, Grow, and Belong.We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Spring/Summer W.E.S.O.A.R! Programs! These in-person programs run once a week, on weekdays.You’ll be supporting participants with disabilities in fun, engaging activities like weekly swimming, trying new bars, jumping at Flying Squirrel, and so much more. Position Overview:This is an unpaid educational volunteer placement designed to provide meaningful learning, training, and documented volunteer hours. We are seeking high-energy, enthusiastic individuals who love working with children and young adults and are willing to learn what Conductive Education is. As a Conductive Education Intern, you'll gain hands-on, resume-building experience and specialized training for your discipline in a holistic therapy environment. You'll work one-on-one with participants and follow along with the group under the guidance of a Conductor or Program Leader. Every session includes sitting and laying exercises, fine manipulation and individual goals, life skills, and recreation activities.Who This Is For:-PT, OT, SLP, kinesiology, Physical Literacy and rehab-focused students seeking hands-on experience-Education, psychology, and disability studies students interested in special needs support-Pre-med, health sciences, nursing, caregiving and biomedical students needing volunteer hours for medical school applications-Recreational therapy students looking for inclusive recreation experience-High school students needing community service hours (summer-intensive track only)-Internationally Educated Physiotherapists awaiting credentialing in Canada to gain Canadian clinical experience and references-General volunteers passionate about working in the disability and therapy fieldWhat You'll Do:-Support participants with moderate to complex neuromotor needs in completing designated therapy exercises and tasks-Work flexible shifts: 3–4.5 hours on weekdays (9-12pm/3pm, 3:30–6:30/8:15 PM) and 4–8 hours on Saturdays (8:30 AM–4:15 PM)-Collaborate with trained professionals (Conductors, Program Leaders, staff) to enhance your understanding of human development and child support-Participate and complete training sessions, check- ins and performance reviews-Assist in lifts and transfers with team members-Participate in group activities including singing to create an upbeat, engaging therapy atmosphere-Set up therapy equipment and maintain cleanliness before and after program times-Assist with personal care as needed (bathrooming, diaper changes, feeding, changing children, cleaning accidents)What You'll Learn & Gain:-Hands-on experience with participants who have cerebral palsy and other neuromotor conditions-Exposure to conductive education: a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to therapy and development-Practical experience in gross and fine motor skill development, behaviour support, and group facilitation-Introduction to Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) tools and strategies-Specialized, field-specific training tailored to your area of interest (e.g., AAC, behaviour support, motor development) from experienced Conductors and staff-Certificate of completion at the end of your term-Personalized reference /recommendation letter highlighting your contributions-Documented volunteer hours toward academic and professional applications-Reimbursement of your Vulnerable Sector Check upon successful completion of required hoursCommitment Options:Option 1: Summer-Intensive (Enrolling for June–August 2026)Total: 130 hours32.5 hours/week for 4 weeks(6.5 hours/day × 5 days/week × 4 weeks = 130 hours)Shifts: Monday to Friday: 8:45am–3:15pmFull-week commitment required for each week you work.
