I wanted to create a safe space where we can all share our experiences and our journey with each other. You will find lots of purple and butterflies on this page. Purple is the recognized color for Eating Disorder Awareness and butterflies have always represented freedom from the disorder for my daughter.
Our daughter and I are collaborating on this site together – we are both sharing our stories and the different sides of the journey. This has been integral to her recovery from an eating disorder and it has been therapeutic for me to work through all the associated emotions. I am writing this as a mother, not as a former RN and so much of what I share is written for other parents, not medical professionals.
Eating disorders are very often a private subject, not shared with others. We are opening up our lives and sharing what worked and what didn’t work for us. Every journey is different and you will have to find what works best for you. This is not intended to be a place for medical advice, so please seek medical advice if you or a loved one is facing this.
Finally, Living in Grace became how we had to learn to live. My daughter had to learn that grace was a safe space to grow, and fail. I had to learn that I had to extend grace to her when I often didn’t understand. Grace is an amazing place to live, where we both learned to be kind to ourselves and each other through the journey of an eating disorder.

For the last three decades, you’ve known us as the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, but with a disease that is ever evolving, we have also evolved.
We remain the only organization in Canada laser focused on breast cancer research because we believe in building on the outstanding progress that’s been made. We see the power in what we do, and will continue to work to highlight the unwavering passion of precision oncology and personalized medicine.
We are Breast Cancer Canada and we champion:
Diversity by creating a basis of ethnically diverse breast cancer patients in clinical trials
Acceleration by driving Canadian research from the lab directly to the clinic with precision oncology
Innovation by applying research methodology that utilizes emerging technology
Patient leadership by developing Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) for breast cancer in Canada
Connection by rapidly expanding the network of research and sharing of data to support design and running of novel Canadian clinical trials

At Carewest, we strive to be forward thinking and approach things differently in the hopes of bringing value to our residents, clients, volunteers and staff. We continually ask ourselves: “how can we do this better?” New ideas and fresh thinking have been our cornerstone, helping take us from where we were more than half a century ago to the progressive health care organization we are today. We believe as strongly in responsiveness, evolution and growth as we do in our, history, foundation and experience. As Calgary’s largest public care provider of its kind and one of the largest in Canada, Carewest operates 14 locations aimed at helping people live more independent lives. Our spectrum of care is available to adults of all ages and includes long-term care, rehabilitation and recovery services, and community programs and services. We pride ourselves on our ability to change with the community’s needs and we do our best to predict what those needs may be in the future. Innovative thinking brought us here – imagine where it can take us.
