The Program- Berkana House is a community residential facility that provides a safe, respectful and empowering environment for women who are transitioning from Federal Institutions (prison) back to the community. The Position – The Culinary Night Volunteer will work collaboratively with the women at Berkana House to develop the skills necessary to plan and prepare healthy, affordable meals while developing strong budgeting and money management skills. You will be supported by a Volunteer Supervisor. Time will be committed to your personal development and will include supervision, support, appraisal and training plans. Responsibilities * To provide support and inspiration to the women. * To work directly with the women to provide the opportunity for them to participate in the planning and preparation of their own meals and experience sharing a mealtime with their housemates. * To plan, organize and offer a variety of healthy meals on a weekly basis. * Build a monthly meal plan with the women and staff team, including planning, budgeting. * Share plan with Team Leader. * To assist in the development of intangible skills such as problem solving and assertiveness as well as helping in the development of self-esteem and self-confidence. Time Commitment * Once per week for 4 hours plus planning time * A one year plus commitment to the program
