Prof. Ying Zhang of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Acadia University, is giving the Spring 2016 SAGE/Biostatistics Seminar entitled “Test for trend for blocked time series”, on Thursday, June 2, 2016. Below is the summary of the talk: Motivated by an investigation on effects of local environmental conditions on yield in maple syrup production in a Nova Scotia farm, we generalize the nonparametric seasonal Mann-Kendall test procedure to test for trend in blocked and panel time series data. To further answer the question when the change happens, we propose a two-stage procedure for estimating the change point in the blocked data. In this talk, I will review some well-known nonparametric statistics used for testing/estimating for trend/change point in univariate time series data and then introduce our generalizations to the blocked data. The procedure is then further illustrated with the average monthly water discharges (m3/sec) from January 1958 to December 2008 at the Athabasca River downstream of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.
