Based on her book Mineral Land Rights: What You Need to Know, Ms. Louie will provide an explanation of land ownership and mineral rights in Alberta. She will discuss the options available to mineral rights owners including leasing the oil and/or natural gas, selling the mineral rights, an owner developing the hydrocarbons on their own or deciding not to allow oil and gas development. Surface access and rights will also be considered. In addition, Ms. Louie will consider the lessor/lessee relationship, inter-generational land transfers and their impact on leasing oil and gas rights in the province.
