Opportunity Description:

The Organization Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. Volunteering at Shelter Movers means contributing to a mission that will make a meaningful impact on families experiencing abuse and supporting survivors as they transition to a life free of violence. It also means playing a role in ending gender-based violence. We are growing and looking to add caring, compassionate, and dependable people to our team. The Role The Recruitment Representative will be the face of Shelter Movers at local recruitment opportunities. They will seek out and attend in person and virtual events with the goal of volunteer recruitment and spreading awareness in the community. They will foster relationships with local organizations and serve as a liaison between Shelter Movers and the community. Impact Spread awareness of the impacts of Gender Based Violence You will have the opportunity to network with your local community You will gain experience public speaking or enhance your skills Spread awareness of the impacts of Gender Based Violence Recruit community members join Shelter Movers Responsibilities and Accountabilities Increase the visibility of Shelter Movers within the community Connect with local organizations to foster relationships and gain contacts Maintain relationship with local organizations to encourage volunteer recruitment and retention Maintain a calendar of potential recruitment opportunities in the community Promote recruitment through several communication means (ex: email, phone) Provide recruitment materials to local organizations that can be promoted on their platforms and social channels Participate in local in person and virtual recruitment events Research local events that may garner volunteer recruitment opportunities and share them with the Volunteer Services Manager Ensure event tables are set up with proper supplies and equipment Maintain knowledge of open volunteer roles in your chapter Present Shelter Movers mission and local accomplishments Track names and contact information of potential volunteers, provide follow up when necessary Participate in regular check ins with Volunteer Services Manager Skills and Qualifications Networking and public speaking High level of comfort engaging with the public at community events Self-motivated and a positive attitude Ability to work as part of a team Awareness of appropriate boundaries Patience, empathy, emotional intelligence, active listening skills, and ability to handle difficult conversations Organized, high maturity level and good judgment Strong interest in the Gender Based Violence (GBV) sector Ability to maintain a voice that is supportive, approachable, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and inclusive in all areas of communication The ability to prioritize tasks and shift priorities as necessary Role Details Time commitment will vary depending on scheduled events. We ask that volunteers are able to commit to at least 2 events per month. Events may be on weekdays or weekends.
