Volunteer Position: Chairperson, Calgary Contemporary Showcase Founded in 1990 by composer Roberta Stephen, Calgary’s Contemporary Showcase has been held every year, reaching thousands of students since its inception. Part of the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects (ACNMP), Contemporary Showcase is hosted in centres around the nation, drawing on a wide range of sponsors to sponsor awards at the local and national level. “The only festival of its kind in Canada, Contemporary Showcase is devoted entirely to music by Canadian composers. The organization is growing and being recognized as one that is currently building performers, composers and audiences for the future. No other organization continues to promote the performance, composition and study of Canadian Contemporary Music.” This is an unpaid volunteer position on the Board of Directors. Role: The Chairperson will direct the planning, organization, and execution of Calgary Contemporary Showcase, an annual student music festival taking place in November. Working with the Board of Directors, the Chairperson will oversee all aspects of the festival, from student registrations and adjudicator hiring to website development and budgeting. The Calgary Contemporary Showcase is keen to increase student numbers and the Chairperson’s leadership will be instrumental in developing new areas of growth. Key Duties: 1) Plan and chair the Annual General Meeting and any other meetings effectively 2) Plan and implement effective strategies to develop the festival in new ways, increasing student registrations and promoting the festival in Calgary’s musical community 3) Oversee the duties and tasks assigned to individual board members 4) Lead annual performance reviews of the Showcase 5) Foster and develop relationships with teachers, parents, and students within Calgary Contemporary Showcase and the wider musical community Requirements: 1) Strong organizational and leadership skills 2) A background in music education preferred 3) Experience on a volunteer board preferred
