Opportunity Description:

SUMMARY OF POSITION This position supports the ESL Instructor to work either one on one or in small group activities with ESL learners who have developmental, physical and/or learning disabilities. We are seeking volunteers who can offer support Monday-Thursday 1:00-4:00pm   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide ASL supports to ESL students Work one on one or in small groups with program participants Follow teacher’s instructions and assist LINC students with their classroom learning tasks Come with an open mind and willingness to help Keep a record of volunteer hours and send it to staff in a timely manner Communicate with Program staff on a regular basis STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE Punctuality and adherence to class schedule Ensure that professional approach is aligned with CIWA values Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm Maintain confidentiality at all times Demonstrate patience with students QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and experience in American Sign language are required Strong communication and writing skills Flexible availability and commitment Support Services background in Special Education, Speech Pathology, Personal Support Worker training is an asset Experience and understanding of the needs of literacy and ESL students facing multiple- language and special needs barriers Appreciation and knowledge of cultural diversity/experience working with an immigrant population
