Opportunity Description
Organization: Quest Theatre
Location: Calgary (Hybrid / Virtual)
Reports to: Treasurer / Chair of Finance Committee
Overview
Quest Theatre is seeking 2–3 Finance Committee Members to support the Treasurer and strengthen financial oversight, continuity, and succession planning.
Purpose of the Role
The Finance Committee supports the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities by overseeing financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and audit processes.
This role is also part of a structured succession plan to train members as backups to the Treasurer.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and discuss monthly/quarterly financial reports
- Support oversight of the annual budgeting process
- Monitor financial risks and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, CRA, and regulatory requirements
- Review financial statements and reporting integrity
- Assist in audit preparation and liaison with auditors
- Support financial planning and sustainability discussions
Succession / Backup Responsibilities
- Receive training from the Treasurer
- Learn reporting, audit, and Board presentation processes
- Be prepared to step in as backup Treasurer if needed
Qualifications
- CPA (preferred) or strong accounting/finance background
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and controls
- Interest in governance and non-profit sector
Time Commitment
- ~6 Finance Committee meetings per year (virtual)
- Optional Board meeting participation (~6 per year)
- Additional time for preparation
