Building healthy communities for over a century Since our inception in 1902, YMCA Calgary has evolved into a vibrant charity offering health and wellness programs, leadership and community outreach programs, child care, and day and overnight camps. YMCA Calgary offers six health and wellness facilities, six child development centres with licensed child care, two outdoor camp sites and dozens of community program sites across the city. We deliver programs, services and opportunities to help Calgarians connect, build life-long skills, and keep active and healthy.

The Alberta International Band Festival (AIBF) is a completely volunteer-run, annual festival that gives students from Calgary and area, and beyond, as well as community groups the opportunity to perform for internationally recognized adjudicators. They receive valuable performance experience, and the opportunity to work with excellent band conductors and musicians. The heart of our festival is our volunteers! We require a large base of volunteers in order to make the Festival run smoothly and successfully. Your participation helps provide a memorable and beneficial educational experience to our student participants. There are a large number of positions and shifts available. Please note that no prior music experience is required. Most of the jobs are relatively easy. On the day of your shift, our Festival Coordinator will be able to walk you through your job responsibilities and will be on hand to provide assistance as needed throughout the day. Some of the volunteer jobs include: band host - helps our groups navigate the venue by leading the group from one area to the next secretary - helps adjudicators’ stay organized, handing out and collecting required materials for each ensemble check-in desk - manning the administration desk as bands check-in emcee - announcing the performances and sponsors (from a script) The Festival runs at two separate times in three different locations for the Concert and Jazz portions of the festival, and volunteers are needed at each. Many volunteers sign up for a single morning or afternoon shift, but if you have the gift of time, we encourage you to sign up for multiple shifts. Whether you can do one shift or multiple shifts, any assistance you can provide will be appreciated. The Optimist Clubs' Park Society of Calgary supports youth-oriented projects in Calgary and area.  We are currently exploring opportunities for community parks development with the City of Calgary Parks Foundation.  In the past few years, we have provided funding to the YMCA (archery shelter and climbing wall at Camp Riveredge), Calgary Stetson Show Band (equipment truck), Calgary Stampede Foundation (Optimist Young Artists' Lounge), and Indefinite Arts Society (kitchen and art gallery).

I wanted to create a safe space where we can all share our experiences and our journey with each other.   You will find lots of purple and butterflies on this page.  Purple is the recognized color for Eating Disorder Awareness and butterflies have always represented freedom from the disorder for my daughter. Our daughter and I are collaborating on this site together – we are both sharing our stories and the different sides of the journey.  This has been integral to her recovery from an eating disorder and it has been therapeutic for me to work through all the associated emotions.  I am writing this as a mother, not as a former RN and so much of what I share is written for other parents, not medical professionals. Eating disorders are very often a private subject, not shared with others.  We are opening up our lives and sharing what worked and what didn’t work for us.  Every journey is different and you will have to find what works best for you.  This is not intended to be a place for medical advice, so please seek medical advice if you or a loved one is facing this. Finally, Living in Grace became how we had to learn to live.  My daughter had to learn that grace was a safe space to grow, and fail.  I had to learn that I had to extend grace to her when I often didn’t understand.  Grace is an amazing place to live, where we both learned to be kind to ourselves and each other through the journey of an eating disorder.

Potential Place is a non-profit mental health agency dedicated to improving the lives of people with chronic mental illness. We hope to help our members lead productive and rewarding lives. We work to maintain a vibrant community of individuals seeking to overcome barriers presented by mental illness. Through participation, personal development, and individual empowerment, we give people the tools they need to create a sustainable, fulfilling lifestyle at work and at home. We seek out employment opportunities for our members through initiatives like our Employment Program* and provide ongoing support, coaching, and mentorship to our members. Potential Place advocates for housing for our members. In addition we have two small apartment buildings that house 25 members who live independently.

Welcome to Girl Guides! We empower young girls and women to be everything they want to be, and as a volunteer, you will help make that happen! Our volunteers support girls as they build confidence, develop new skills and become leaders in their communities. As part of a unit’s leadership team, you’ll facilitate fun and engaging program activities, like scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, outdoor exploration, games and more. You can choose to work with girls in one of five branches: Sparks (age 5-6), Brownies (age 7-8), Guides (age 9-11), Pathfinders (age 12-14) or Rangers (age 15-17).

Cornerstone of Hope Alberta Society is a multi-denominational , non-profit ministry which has served hundreds of families over the years. Our programs are currently in two locations and we are seeking to build partnerships with many more organizations. From our Calgary, Alberta headquarters, we develop activity-based curriculum, train others to use it, and help organizations support children and adults experiencing family loss. In addition, we offer Peer Support Groups through partnership with First Assembly Church. Our programs are designed to be duplicable, operating in 12-week cycles which can continue throughout the year, creating an ongoing, volunteer-based ministry and caring environment. Over the years, Cornerstone of Hope has remained committed to our goal of helping families live through loss and thrive in the face of adversity, while equipping others to do the same.
