The Alberta Drama Festival Association is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to encourage, develop and maintain community theatre in Alberta. The main vehicle for pursuing this mandate is the adult, non-professional One-Act Play Festivals held throughout Alberta. Regional organizations in each of the nine zones host annual festivals which bring together community groups in a celebration and sharing of theatre excellence.
The Alberta International Band Festival (AIBF) is a completely volunteer-run, annual festival that gives students from Calgary and area, and beyond, as well as community groups the opportunity to perform for internationally recognized adjudicators. They receive valuable performance experience, and the opportunity to work with excellent band conductors and musicians.
The heart of our festival is our volunteers! We require a large base of volunteers in order to make the Festival run smoothly and successfully. Your participation helps provide a memorable and beneficial educational experience to our student participants.
There are a large number of positions and shifts available. Please note that no prior music experience is required. Most of the jobs are relatively easy. On the day of your shift, our Festival Coordinator will be able to walk you through your job responsibilities and will be on hand to provide assistance as needed throughout the day. Some of the volunteer jobs include:

band host - helps our groups navigate the venue by leading the group from one area to the next

secretary - helps adjudicators’ stay organized, handing out and collecting required materials for each ensemble

check-in desk - manning the administration desk as bands check-in

emcee - announcing the performances and sponsors (from a script)

Many volunteers sign up for a single morning or afternoon shift, but if you have the gift of time, we encourage you to sign up for multiple shifts. Whether you can do one shift or multiple shifts, any assistance you can provide will be appreciated.

Alberta Theatre Projects’ Mission, Vision and Values
MISSION
We create world-class contemporary theatre from our home in the Martha Cohen Theatre. We are a national leader in new play development. Programming is driven by the collision of diverging ideas, points of view, class, gender, or cultural perspectives and is selected from the finest Canadian and international plays and new works commissioned and developed in-house. Our productions radically explore our space, blurring the line between the audience and the artist through multiple seating configurations each season.
VISION
We are provocative contemporary storytellers, reflecting our world through stirring theatrical experiences.
CORE VALUES
KINDNESS
We are guided every day by the principles of kindness, respect, and integrity.
EXCELLENCE
We pride ourselves on quality, ensuring every element of our operations and the work we put on stage is exceptional.
INCLUSIVENESS
We celebrate human connection and the diversity of our world with an emphasis on inclusion and accessibility.
INNOVATION
We explore magical ideas, creativity, and the power of our imagination to create new ways of working on stage and behind the scenes.
COMMUNITY
We bring together people from every corner of our city, province and nation to share in the power of storytelling.
The Alexandra Centre Society (ACS) was created as a registered charity in 1975. The
Alexandra Centre, our building that we manage, has been at the heart and centre of
the community since 1902 – and when threatened to be no more, brought our
communities together to save a piece of our heritage. We are not a community centre,
rather the center of our community.
The ACS serves multiple communities and brings our communities together- rather than
focus on one individual community alone. Bringing multiple communities together
makes us stronger and allows for a larger reach in our City. The ACS helps support and
strengthen our communities coming together and we offer resources beyond what
local associations offer, and pickup the gaps where needed. We help engage more
residents in matters that affect us all.
We care for and protect a piece of Calgary’s history, while offering affordable spaces
for essential services. We help support the wellbeing of our residents with many helpful
and useful programs such as the CVITP tax program, Good Food Box depot, Food
Security hampers, engaging classes and camps, and community use spaces.
