Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA) is a non-profit organization established in 1982 as a registered charity. CIWA is a culturally diverse settlement agency that recognizes, responds to, and focuses on the unique concerns and needs of immigrant and refugee women, girls, and their families. CIWA’s uniqueness is based on its gender specific mandate. Over the years, we have continually responded to emerging needs of immigrant women and girls, developed innovative programs, established meaningful partnerships, and have come to be recognized as a provincial and national leader in outcome-based gender-specific settlement services.
CIWA offers programs and services that use a holistic approach to support clients in the areas of settlement and integration, literacy and language training, employment support and bridging programs, family violence, parenting, individual counselling, in-home support, civic engagement, health, housing, and community development. All clients have access to childcare and first language support during group sessions and individual appointments.
BeaYOUtiful is a non-profit organization that was initially established in January 2012. Reaching out to young girls between the ages of 8-14, this organization provides mentorship programs for those struggling with confidence, lacking self-esteem, or simply looking to build a more positive outlook.
BeaYOUtiful works directly with young girls throughout Canada, providing a safe and fun environment enrolled in the after school program. Classes range from learning to balance a healthy lifestyle, dealing with bullying and family issues, to key steps towards finding the inspiration to chase your dreams. Although each class exemplifies a different life lesson, the same moral is focused on in the end: never forget you are beautiful.
The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. For over fifteen years, ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada.
Variety – the Children’s Charity of Alberta supports children who are living with disabilities and specialized needs in our communities.
Through education, advocacy, direct support and community outreach, we support children who are facing physical, developmental, emotional or learning challenges and are dedicated to advancing the health, quality of life and enrichment of children living with specialized requirements and needs.
The initiatives that we engage in support building inclusive and healthy communities for children living with specialized needs to gain greater independence and positive life experiences.

Humanities 101 is a strength-based educational program designed to help low-income Calgarians address barriers getting in the way of exercising their capacities and skills. We learn about the stories that connect us to others and the world around us through studies in Literature, History, Music, Cultural Studies, Philosophy, and Art History.
Participants in Humanities 101’s challenging, but supported, university-level courses learn how to increase their capacity to engage in life and society, while deepening their skills of learning, communicating, and analysis. We meet two days a week for four months and study a variety of texts and ideas. Teachers and volunteers are co-learners in the classroom and are passionate about learning and create a welcoming space where adults with a diverse range of life and educational experiences challenge themselves and find a passion and excitement for learning.

MISSION: IAACC strives to provide opportunities for all artists, promotion of the arts and bring a thriving arts community to East Calgary.
ôˈspiSHəs art kə’lektiv is a non-profit Art and Artist society focused on embracing the whole community. We’re committed to make Art as well as Artists accessible to everyone through an interactive gallery space located in the vibrant neighborhood of Inglewood. We provide space for Artists to create, showcase and sell their Art while being open to the public. ôˈspiSHəs believes in great beginnings through the healing power of Art, featuring Artists who are on a journey of recovery. The gallery is a central hub available for use by individual Artists, Art therapy, addiction support groups, community engagement groups and we are open to collaboration with many other associations.
YouQuest is Calgary's first community for people with young-onset dementia (under 65 years) and their families. Our purpose is to promote health and well-being by ensuring access to recreation therapy, counselling and peer support. YouQuest offers a place to belong, a reliable support network to families for full-day respite and caregiver peace of mind to maintain family responsibilities.
A registered charity, YouQuest provides access to recreation centre amenities people to follow their own interests. Our Recreation Therapy staff and community volunteers provide functional support as needed to help people achieve well-being, learn new skills, and maintain their independence.

Founded in 1990 by composer Roberta Stephen, Calgary's Contemporary Showcase has been held every year, reaching thousands of students since its inception. Part of the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects (ACNMP), Contemporary Showcase is hosted in centres around the nation, drawing on a wide range of sponsors to sponsor awards at the local and national level.
The only festival of its kind in Canada, Contemporary Showcase is devoted entirely to music by Canadian composers. It is non-competitive in that no marks are awarded, no ranking given and the adjudications take place in a master class atmosphere designed to be informative and supportive. Outstanding performers are further encouraged through scholarship recognition. Many scholarship recipients of the past festivals have gone on to make their mark in the music world. Notables include Jean Stillwell, Scott St. John, Measha Brueggergosman, Lara St. John, and Stewart Goodyear.
The organization is growing and being recognized as one that is currently building performers, composers and audiences for the future. No other organization continues to promote the performance, composition and study of Canadian Contemporary Music.
Living in a big city can be tough. For most low income earners, just getting by is hard enough. Throw in an injury or a lost job and suddenly the whole family is at risk. The Samaritan Club of Calgary is dedicated to providing short term assistance to Calgarians in need.
We provide support to those in crisis only by referral from health care professionals, social workers, and community support workers. Each request must come through an email to samaritanclubofcalgary@gmail.com , a telephone call or written letter to our mailbox.
Samaritan Club members are a dedicated team of some 150 women who raise funds throughout the year to support their initiatives. The majority of the funds continue to be raised through the famous Super Sales held in both the Spring and Fall at the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Centre. Other events such as bridge luncheons, casinos and golf tournaments are periodically staged to provide additional revenue.
An outstanding feature of the Samaritan Club of Calgary is that it operates without any administrative overhead. Members pay an annual fee to ensure that 100% of the funds raised in the community can be directed to those in need.
DIY Theatre is a Calgary-based, independent, semi-professional theatre company and we are recruiting a new member to our voluntary Board of Directors to serve as Treasurer.
We are a registered non-profit organization and although we are small, we are very mighty and we are at an exciting point in our organizational growth! This is a rewarding, exciting and varied position that will help shape the future of DIY.
DIY Theatre is committed to producing work that is raw, authentic, and embraces the flawed through examining issues of conscience, ethics and morality in both classical and contemporary theatre. All of our work is chosen with the intent of provoking conversation and focuses on drawing in the audience like a good story being told around a fire.
We are a group of semi-professional artists that have come together to make art and tell stories. We ask questions. We reflect. And we invite our audiences along for the ride.
