Since the very beginnings of colonial contact Native American and First Nations knowledge keepers have freely shared their empirical know-how with explorers, traders and settlers, but time and again the combined intellectual hubris of monotheism and Cartesian logo-centrism foreclosed transcultural learning. Today, in various disciplines of Western Academia, we are beginning a certain discursive openness to accept epistemologies, which allow for a more encompassing “Indigenous” relational ontology, in which the seemingly spontaneous and (not yet) explainable can exist alongside hard core materialist empiricism. Lunch will be provided. This event is hosted by the Faculty of Arts. Space is limited. Please RSVP to vesna.malkanovic@ucalgary.ca by Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 with any dietary considerations.
