On Thursday and Friday in Reading Week there is a Software Carpentry workshop in the TFDL, teaching the basics of Unix automations, Python programs, and version control on GitHub. It is open to all University of Calgary staff, graduate students, and faculty who want to learn “basic lab skills for scientific computing.” Here is the registration link for more information. And here’s an introduction to the workshop: Software Carpentry’s mission is to help scientists and engineers get more research done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic lab skills for scientific computing. This hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. This two-day course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers. You don’t need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop.
