Engaging New Ideas in Education with Kevin Alderson

The Internet and several societal changes in Canada over the past 10 years has led to both increased visibility and earlier “coming out” experiences for members of the lesbian, gay, and bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. A new sexual revolution is underway beneath your nose, and gender is exploding in even bigger ways. The once silent revolution is finding a loud and provocative voice. The impact of this rapid shift is being felt in mental health practice. Most clinicians, however, have received little to no training in working with LGBT individuals. Along with these changes have emerged new sexual and gender identities that are not well understood. This talk provides an introduction to how sexuality and gender is shifting for an ever increasing number of young people. Dr. Alderson will also present a provocative theory that is still germinating. This talk is free and open to all.
