An activity framed within the University of Calgary’s Energy Research Strategy, “Energy Innovations for Today and Tomorrow” Dr. Pierre-Olivier Pineau’s talk will discuss “The Canadian Electricity Sectors Make No Sense: A Few Steps to Get Richer and Greener.” Summary All ten Canadian provinces have different approaches to electricity markets – from heavy regulation to a high level of competition. This fragmented approach to electricity supply, although historically understandable, makes little sense from an economic, environmental and even social perspective. This talk will cover various areas where we fail to adequately manage our investments in and use of the power system. Policy avenues for change, leading simultaneously to greater wealth and lower environmental impacts, will be presented and discussed.
