Blending their cultural backgrounds from China, Iran, Pakistan, Spain, Europe and North America, the Big World Band forges a New World Music that is more than the sum of its parts, a real west coast fusion that reflects our multicultural society. Their new concert The Parrot and the Merchant, inspired by a beloved tale by Persian mystic poet Rūmī, takes us through the soundscapes of Iran and India. New compositions by Mohamed Assani, Hossein Behroozinia حسین بهروزی نیا| Official, Farshid Samandari, John Oliver and Zhimin Yu. A merchant sets out on a voyage from his home in Iran to India. He asks the family and his pet parrot what they would like him to bring back. The family asks for the usual things, but the parrot asks the merchant to tell the story of his life in a cage to his relatives in the jungles of India. Come find out what happens!
