The Program- Berkana House is a community residential facility that provides a safe, respectful and empowering environment for women who are transitioning from Federal Institutions (prison) back to the community. The Position – The women at Berkana House gather every Wednesday for an evening of prosocial activities. The Volunteer will work directly with them to give them the opportunity to meet together, discuss issues they are facing in their reintegration and learn how to take part in drug and alcohol free activities.  You will be supported by a Volunteer Supervisor. Time will be committed to your personal development and will include supervision, support, appraisal and training plans. Responsibilities * To provide support and inspiration to the women. * To work directly with the women to provide the opportunity for them to meet together and discuss issues facing their reintegration. * To plan, organize and offer a variety of prosocial activities on a weekly basis. * Build a monthly schedule of activities, including budgeting and gaining approval from the Team Leader. * Work with the staff team and the community to provide support for the activities. * To assist in the development of intangible skills such as problem solving and assertiveness as well as helping in the development of self-esteem and self-confidence. Time Commitment * Once per week for 3 hours plus planning time * A one year plus commitment to the program
