Georgiann Davis, author, sociologist, and activist, will discuss how intersex is currently experienced by intersex people, their families, and medical providers. She will focus specifically on the ways in which intersex controversially became a disorder of sex development. She will highlight current intersex advocacy efforts that are occurring around the world, and explore the steps people can take to become a good ally. This event will be held in the Q Centre, 210 Macewan Student Centre.

Georgiann DavisGeorgiann Davis is assistant professor of sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the president of the AIS-DSD Support Group. She has written numerous articles on intersex in various venues ranging from Ms. Magazine to the American Journal of Bioethics. In Contesting Intersex: The Dubious Diagnosis (2015, NYU Press), Davis explores how intersex is defined, experienced, and contested in contemporary U.S. society.http://www.georgianndavis.com/
