Please join the Department of Communication and Culture Colloquium (Triple C) to hear Dr. Karim-Aly S. Kassam’s talk entitled Wicked Problems, Diversity, and Interdisciplinarity: The Case of Building Anticipatory Capacity for Climate Change. Climate change is occurring in regions with already existing layers of inequities. Furthermore, communities that did not contribute to the causes of climate change are at its vanguard and are experiencing dramatic perturbations. Using applied research from the Pamir Mountains of Afghanistan and Tajikistan in Central Asia, this presentation will discuss the possible contributions the biological and social sciences as well as the humanities can make to building anticipatory and adaptive capacity. The presentation will illustrate a humanistic approach to addressing climate change where multiple ways of knowing (including indigenous knowledge) are relevant. Bio: Dr. Karim-Aly S. Kassam is International Professor of Environmental and Indigenous Studies in the Department of Natural Resources and the American Indian Program at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell University currently visiting the University of Calgary. ABOUT TRIPLE C – The Triple C Speakers Series is a monthly colloquium hosted by the Department of Communication and Culture presenting new research and special interest topics in the Social Sciences and Humanities to the University of Calgary community.
