Minister Faust will read from his Edmonton-based novels and discuss the importance of contemporary regional Can-Lit for Canadian readers and students. He comes to Calgary courtesy of the exchange program between the Calgary Distinguished Writers Program and the Department of English at the University of Alberta. Minister Faust is a novelist, journalist, sketch comedy writer, blogger, video game writer, playwright, and poet. He is the current Writer-in-Residence at the University of Alberta and the critically-acclaimed author of The Alchemists of Kush and Shrinking the Heroes. His debut novel, The Coyote Kings, was shortlisted for the Locus Best First Novel, Philip K. Dick, and Compton-Crook awards. Minister Faust has been described as Samuel Delaney, Harlan Ellison, and Ishmael Reed all rolled into one. A former national television host and associate producer, Minister Faust also hosted and produced Canada’s longest-running global African news and public affairs program, Africentric Radio, between 1991 and 2012.
