Opportunity Description:

Volunteer youth mentors will enhance intercultural understanding and provide immigrant girls with opportunities for personal growth and community involvement. Mentors will inspire youth to become engaged in their communities through a mentor/mentee relationship. And in turn, mentors are often inspired by their mentees and will develop many skills from interpersonal relationships, communication, trust, and more.   SUMMARY OF POSITION The youth mentor will provide support for the social, academic, and personal development of immigrant girls through one-on-one mentorship sessions to facilitate their integration process. A minimum time commitment of 4 hours per month (can be broken into a few meetings) for one full year between April-March.   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Support an immigrant youth through a one-on-one relationship Weekly or bi-weekly individual mentor/mentee sessions Provide guidance and information to the mentee on Canadian culture Support mentee to build an action plan at the beginning of the month and plan activities that support social, academic and personal development Be a role model and a friend Build self-esteem, mutual respect, and intercultural understanding   STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE Ensure that professional approach is aligned with CIWA values Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm Maintain confidentiality at all times Reliable, responsible, punctual, reliable, motivated, and detail-oriented   QUALIFICATIONS Female between 18 – 30 years of age Resided in Canada for more than one year Second language is an asset Interest in working with immigrant youth and willingness to understand their cultural background       If interested please contact: Volunteer Program: Debra Colley Phone number: 403-517-8830                                   E-mail: volunteer@ciwa-online.com
