Opportunity Description:

Please start an application HERE! Overview: Special Events Volunteers play an essential role in creating unforgettable experiences for guests at Heritage Park’s signature events throughout the year. Each event provides unique opportunities to engage with visitors, assist with logistics, and contribute to the overall success of these beloved community celebrations. Whether you’re guiding families through activities, helping with event setup, or ensuring everything runs smoothly, Special Events Volunteers help bring the magic of Heritage Park to life. Commitment: Special Events Volunteers sign up for individual events based on their availability and interests. Shifts typically last between 4 to 6 hours, and volunteers can choose from a variety of roles that align with their skills and preferences. These events often take place on weeknights, weekends, and holidays, and can require anywhere from 10 to 150 volunteers each day. Most positions do not require costumes. Special Events offer the greatest flexibility and a wide range of activities, making them a perfect way to get started with volunteering at Heritage Park. Shifts are available for half or full days, and many roles take place outdoors. Key Special Events (more being added!): Heritage Park Antiques Roadshow (April 18-20) – Assist with expert appraisals, vendor markets, silent auctions, and interactive exhibits. Day Out with Thomas (May 3-4, 10-11) – Support children’s games, train rides, and meet-and-greet experiences with Sir Topham Hatt. The Artisan’s Fair Featuring the Festival of Quilts (May 24-25) – Help with craft demonstrations, workshops, and quilt displays. Days of Yore (August 2-3) – Engage guests with historical reenactments, war artillery displays, and period performances. Railway Days (September 13-14) – Celebrate locomotives and rolling stock with interactive exhibits and operational demonstrations. Ghouls’ Night Out (October 23-26) – Create a safe and fun Halloween experience through carnival games, crafts, and themed activities. Once Upon A Christmas (Weekends, December 6-21) – Spread holiday cheer with festive displays, activities, and guest interactions. Volunteer Roles: Each event requires a variety of roles to ensure its success. Volunteers may assist in the following capacities (and so much more!): Wagon Ride Assistant – Help guests safely board and enjoy wagon rides. Crossing Guard – Ensure pedestrian safety at key intersections within the Park. Volunteer Check-In Host – Welcome and sign in volunteers, provide event details, and answer questions. Lunchroom Server – Assist with food service and refreshments for event volunteers. Ambassadors – Provide information, directions, and friendly interaction to enhance guest experiences. Set-up and Tear-down Crew – Help with pre-event preparation and post-event cleanup to ensure smooth transitions between activities. Retail Support – Assist with event merchandise sales and promote Heritage Park’s offerings. Fire Pit Monitoring – Ensure guests’ safety around fire pits and help create a cozy atmosphere. Family Games – Engage guests with fun, family-friendly games and activities. Training & Support: Special Events Volunteers will receive role-specific training prior to each event, ensuring they feel confident and prepared. Heritage Park staff will be available to provide guidance and answer any questions throughout the event. Who Should Apply? We welcome individuals who are enthusiastic about history, enjoy working with the public, and are eager to be part of Heritage Park’s vibrant community. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to contribute and have fun!
