Between Friends has been offering social and recreational programs in Calgary and the surrounding area for close to 40 years. Through our programs, we endeavor to benefit all people and increase the community’s awareness, positive attitudes, and sensitivity towards their fellow citizens with disabilities.
Through the name updates, program additions and changes and adapting to the ever-changing circumstances of our society Between Friends has remained committed to providing quality social and recreational programming for people with disabilities.

Looking for a fun, meaningful way to spend your summer, meet new people, and make a real impact in your community?Between Friends is looking for youth and teen volunteers (12+) to join our Camp Bonaventure summer program! This is your chance to be part of something active, social, and rewarding while supporting people with disabilities to Connect, Grow, and Belong.🎉 WHAT YOU’LL BE DOINGEvery day at camp looks a little different—and that’s part of the fun! You’ll help participants enjoy awesome summer experiences like:Swimming and water activities 💦Games, sports, and outdoor fun ⚽Creative activities and challenges 🎨Excursions like trampoline parks, community outings, and more 🎢Hanging out and supporting campers alongside awesome staffYou’re not just “helping”—you’re part of the experience.📍 CAMP LOCATIONSWe run across three Calgary communities:Thorncliffe (NE)Sandy Beach (SW)Willow Ridge (SE)You may be placed at one location (or sometimes more depending on need and availability).🕒 TIME COMMITMENTCamp runs 8 weeks over the summerYou only need to commit to a minimum of 5 volunteer days totalCamp runs Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PMYou can choose days based on your availability (with consistency encouraged!)✨ WHY VOLUNTEER?Make new friends and be part of a fun teamGain real experience working with peopleBuild skills for school, jobs, and future careersTry new things and step out of your comfort zoneHave a summer that actually feels meaningful👀 WHO WE’RE LOOKING FORYou don’t need experience—just the right mindset:Fun, positive, and open to new experiencesCaring and respectful toward othersWilling to learn and jump inReliable and ready to show up✅ Volunteer RequirementsMinimum age: 12+Complete a Police Information Check, If over 18+ (instructions provided as needed)Reliable transportation,Comfortable supporting participantsInclusive mindset and eagerness to learnTeam player attitudeAbility to communicate with staff

Between Friends provides quality social, recreational, and developmental opportunities so that people with disabilities can Connect, Grow, and Belong.We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Spring/Summer W.E.S.O.A.R! Programs! These in-person programs run once a week, on weekdays.You’ll be supporting participants with disabilities in fun, engaging activities like weekly swimming, trying new bars, jumping at Flying Squirrel, and so much more. Volunteers work alongside our Program Leaders to ensure participants feel safe, included, and have a great time.🕒 Time CommitmentRuns once per week Tuesday - Sunday (May change in the summer)Summer: Now – August 29Each session is between 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, depending on the programYou can volunteer for multiple programs per weekConsistency is key – volunteers are expected to attend every scheduled session✨ You Might Be a Great Fit If You Are:Fun – You bring joy and energy to everyday experiences Intentional – You act with purpose and clarity, even under pressureCaring – You lead with empathy and celebrate othersEaseful – You help create accessible, inclusive environmentsSafe – You value emotional and physical safety for everyone✅ Volunteer RequirementsMust be 16+ years oldComplete a Police Check (instructions provided)Have reliable transportationBe comfortable assisting with:Personal careSupporting medication administrationBring an inclusive mindset and eagerness to learnBe a team player and problem solverCommunicate with staff and leaders using SlackComplete an application through Better ImpactExperience working with people with disabilities is an asset, but not required
