The University of Calgary International is pleased to co-sponsor and host the Aga Khan Foundation Canada University Seminar Series this year on the topic of Youth (Un)Employment: Global Problems Meet Local Solutions. Participants will have a unique opportunity to interactively engage in a discussion on how innovative initiatives, such as the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme in Pakistan, as well as community driven initiatives in Canada, are paving a path to increase economic opportunities for young people. We are excited to welcome an extremely dynamic and knowledgeable speaker, Abdul Malik, joining us from Pakistan to talk about global youth unemployment and some of the ways that the Aga Khan Rural Support Program (AKRSP) is tackling these issues in Northern Pakistan, a region where less than 50% of youth participate in the labour market.Abdul Malik has more than 12 years of professional experience in the field of development and has been General Manager of AKRSP Pakistan since 2011. At AKRSP, he is leading a number of key initiative surrounding youth development, rural livelihoods and institutional development. Previously, he worked in the United States with a number of leading institutions, including the World Bank and the Brookings Institution. Mr. Malik has primarily worked on issues surrounding aid effectiveness, migration, poverty and local development. Mr. Malik holds a Master’s degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and an MBA from LUMS Pakistan.
