Early in your graduate training, you will begin a relationship with your graduate supervisor that will be one of the most important relationships in your academic career. Having a productive relationship with your supervisor will help you progress through the many stages in your graduate school education and beyond. Highly successful student-supervisor relationships seldom just happen, but rather require pro-active steps to establish productive supervisory relationships. In this workshop you will learn effective communication skills to support constructive working relationships, identify strategies to help prevent conflict, and learn self-care ideas to help you maintain professional and personal well-being. Information will be shared about what supervisors at the University of Calgary value in positive supervisory relationships with graduate students. Group discussion and resource information will be provided.
