The Chair of Christian Thought at the University of Calgary presents The Bentall Lectures in Christian Theology A lecture by Dr. Stephen Engler Professor of Religious Studies Humanities, Mount Royal University, Calgary Opportunities & Threats in the Global Study of Religions This presentation looks at the academic study of religion as a global phenomenon. It considers the state of the field of religious studies in selected countries, highlighting the number and range of programs, relations with theology, the role of professional associations, modes of dissemination, and government policy. The presentation concludes with reflection on the goals and functions of “Religious Studies” in Canada.
