The Chair of Christian Thought at the University of Calgary presents The Bentall Lectures in Christian Theology Multiple Religious Adherence & Boundary Crossing in Brazil A wide variety of religions are active in Brazil, including traditional, Charismatic and popular Catholicism; historical, evangelical and Pentecostal Protestant denominations; Kardecist Spiritism and Umbanda; Afro-Brazilian traditions; Judaism and Islam; various Buddhisms and Japanese religions; and a wide variety of New Religious Movements. This presentation offers a brief overview of these religious paths in light of the fact that Brazilians have a high incidence of syncretism (mixing religions) and of multiple adherence (belonging to more than one religion).
