Dean Jim Dewald delivers his research on overcoming barriers to innovation; oil-and-gas entrepreneur Suzanne West speaks to how innovation plays out in her business. About the speakers: Jim Dewald, PhD – As dean of the Haskayne School of Business and former industry CEO, Jim is a recognized business leader who bridges strategy theory and on-the-ground practice. His research focuses on strategy formulation and implementation, and entrepreneurial thinking. Prior to joining the academic world, Jim was an innovative developer and CEO of numerous property development companies. Suzanne West – Calgary’s oil woman, a successful entrepreneur and winner of the 2013 PROFIT Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship. Since launching her first publicly traded company in 1999, Suzanne has started and sold three additional private oil and gas companies, including Black Shire Energy Ltd which was bought by Twin Butte Energy Ltd in 2013 for $358 million. She is now working on her latest project Imaginea Energy, a new oil and gas company that is committed to valuing all three principles of planet, people and profits.
