Conference: Human Rights Challenges: Past, Present and Emerging

Anyone interested or working in the areas of human resources, diversity and inclusion, human rights and/or law will gain valuable insights at this conference being co-hosted by the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University on behalf of CAPDHHE. This conference is a rare opportunity for faculty and campus administrators to come together and share experiences, knowledge, and best practices for creating respectful and inclusive environments. The conference will feature many expert speakers, two of whom include: Shakil Choudhury, an award-winning educator and consultant with more than 20 years’ experience in the field of diversity, equity and inclusion. Choudhury is the author of Deep Diversity: Overcoming Us vs. Them, that facilitates conversation about racism and discrimination, uncovers racial blind spots we all possess, and provides practical solutions to help break learned “prejudice habits.” Choudhury will present Deep Diversity: Uncovering Our Bias and Blind Spots. Constance Backhouse, internationally renowned for her feminist research and publications on sex discrimination and the legal history of gender and race in Canada. Backhouse chaired Dalhousie University’s task force on misogyny, sexism and homophobia in the Faculty of Dentistry, and is a distinguished university professor and university research chair at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law. She will speak about confronting racism, sexism and homophobia on our campuses.
