Discoveries in physics are occurring at an incredible pace. University of Calgary students will speak on the latest, fastest, smallest and most fascinating new research in physics. Talks Obtaining Column Densities in Hot Cores – James Campbell Star birth is an incredible phenomenon. James will share his research on hot cores which are associated with the early stages of massive star formation Probing the depth of Supershell GSH 242-3+37 along the line of sight – Harisah Mehmood A superbubble (also known as a supershell) is a cavity several hundred light years across filled with low density high temperature gas. Learn more about this massive bubble which is blown into the interstellar medium by supernovae and stellar winds of massive stars. Magnetic Resonance Imaging – David MacDonald Learn how magnetic resonance works with MR Imaging. Dave will share his research on the advancements in medical technology pertaining to physics. Darkness in the Milky Way – Matt Richards Utilizing the RAO’s radio telecopce, Matt and his team measured the galactic rotation curve of the Milky Way Galaxy by collecting data on the velocity of neutral Hydrogen. This also the method that scientists use to verify the existence of dark matter throughout the universe. In the sky – The Gemini Twins will be holding hands and visible straight up over our heads. Entrance fee $20 per car OR $10 per person No need to pre-register, gates open at 8pm
