A new national report highlights that managing limited financial resources remains the most common challenge for Canadians—with the cost of living continuing to top household concerns. With need rising in communities nationwide, The Salvation Army is calling on Canadians to give generously this holiday season.

When Ouafaa Eladmi and her family moved to Canada three years ago, she knew they were embarking on a transitional period that might require some sacrifices, one of them being the Christmas season. The family, originally from Casablanca, Morocco, first had to adapt to their new surroundings. The move from a big city to a small town such as High River, Alta., was a significant change. With no family or many friends around, Ouafaa was expecting a toned-down Christmas.

The BMO Real Financial Progress Index reveals 65% of Canadians plan to give back to their community this holiday season, despite rising costs and economic uncertainty. The Index was developed based on a survey of 2500 adults conducted by Ipsos in Canada and the U.S.

The City of Greater Sudbury said it has moved a volunteer-run organization called Sudbury Outreach Services, also known as SOS, to the Energy Court tent encampment to increase the servies being offered there.

The City of Greater Sudbury, through the 2025 Greater Sudbury Arts and Culture Grant program, awarded grants to 37 recipient projects and organizations. In total, $587,577 was invested in support of Greater Sudbury’s creative and cultural industry.
