This panel will present three scholars’ perspectives on the role of “life writing” (auto/biography) in communications studies. The investigation of life writing complicates and challenges the master-narratives of many communication theories and research methodologies. Considering “who” is writing about “whom,” as well as how auto/biography is crafted, challenges us to think differently about communication. Life writing narrates important social, ideological, and cultural issues from an individual’s point of view over time. Connections: The CMF Speaker Series is a monthly colloquium hosted by the Department of Communication, Media and Film, presenting new research and special interest topics in the Social Sciences and Humanities to the University of Calgary community. The events are free and followed by a reception.
