The Arabic Language and Muslim Cultures program is pleased to present Confessions from the War, a film screening and Q&A with Director Leon Shahabian. As the Syrian War rages next door, former fighters from the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990) must confront their past for the sake of Lebanon’s future. Will sharing their personal stories of loss, regret and redemption with Lebanese youth at risk of radicalization be enough to help prevent another war? Only time will tell. Join us for a screening of Director Leon Shahabian’s film, Confessions from the War. The film will be presented by the director himself, and will be followed by discussion, audience Q&A and a reception. Leon Shahabian serves as President of Layalina, a Washington, DC based non-profit that works on improving US-Arab relations through media productions, publications and track two diplomacy efforts. Mr. Shahabian co-founded Layalina in 2002 and has since produced fifteen award-winning documentaries and television series distributed by Warner Brothers, New Line Television, and O3 Productions. He is currently in production on The Journey and on Confessions from the War, his fourth film aimed at preventing violent extremism. If you have questions, or to RSVP, please e-mail slllc@ucalgary.ca
