On May 27, Libraries and Cultural Resources (LCR) will host a presentation by one of the country’s leading experts on scholarly publishing. Vincent Larivière will discuss his ground-breaking study into academic journal use at Université de Montréal (UdeM) which combined usage statistics and citation indexes with a qualitative survey of faculty on their preferred journals. The result was a paradigm shift in the UdeM’s negotiations with publishers, with UdeM most recently keeping only 6.6 per cent of one publisher’s journals which accounted for 42 per cent of the downloads.
