PFS Studio is a leading Canadian landscape architecture, urban design and planning firm based in Vancouver, BC. This special Design Matters lecture will feature two of the firms leading designers – Partners, Chris Phillips and Kelty Miyoshi McKinnon. Chris Phillips is widely respected for his ability to create deeply memorable designs for a wide range of complex urban design and public open space projects. Over the past twenty years, he has been principal in charge of many award winning urban development, community, waterfront, civic spaces and park projects at PFS. Kelty McKinnon has a diverse background in architecture, landscape, art and environmental studies. She specializes in projects that deal with the public realm and is committed to the creation of unique, innovative public space that is both culturally and ecologically rich. She has played a key role in PFS’s success in design competitions, including the international Toronto Harbourfront Competition. Design Matters with PFS Studio will discuss the firm’s work as it primarily deals with the engagement and production of the public realm from plazas and streets, parks, campuses and waterfronts. The firm’s design approach centers around the strategic deployment of dynamic processes, both during the design process, and after construction. Success is gauged through multifunctionality- ecologically, culturally, programmatically socially, economically, artistically…and poetically. Tickets: Students are free. Non-students $10 More Info: http://evds.ucalgary.ca/event/design-matters-pfs-studios-chris-phillips-and-kelty-mckinnon
